DPS Aspire joins Toronto Defiant. The Toronto Defiant has announced the signing of Luka “Aspire” Rolovic, with the DPS having joined the Overwatch League team ahead of the final stage of the 2021 season. Aspire joins the organization on a permanent basis, having previously been on board as part of the league’s unique 30-day contract.

How Aspire earned a permanent contract at Toronto

Aspire will act as hitscan for the Defiant, with it remaining to be seen as to how the last-gasp additional will impact Toronto. The American moved from American Tornado in the Overwatch Contenders to the Defiant back in May. This was as a result of a coronavirus outbreak at Toronto’s training facility, with starting DPS players Andreas “Logix” Berghmans and Jeong “Heesu” Hee-su having tested positive.

Despite his lack of experience at the highest level, Aspire more than proved his worth for the Defiant, coming up clutch in almost every game he featured in. As a result, Toronto made the decision to renew his 30-day deal in June, which led to further playing time during the June Joust event.

Aspire began his professional career in 2019 with Revival, before also competing under the banner of the likes of Triumph, Malibu and Susanoo on loan. He then started 2021 with DarkMode NA.

When do the Defiant return to action?

With the Toronto Defiant getting their Countdown Cup campaign underway on August 6, they will be hoping that Aspire can maintain his impressive form. The team currently has a 6-6 record, meaning that they are certainly still in the running for the postseason playoffs in the West Region.

Aspire is now the second non-Korean member of the Defiant roster, which features Logix, Heesu, Park “Aztac” Jeong-su, An “ANSOONJAE” Soon-jae, Sumin “SADO” Kim, Minhyuk “Michelle” Choi, Lee “Na1st” Ho-sung and Jungwon “Lastro” Mu.
