European organization G2 Esports has revealed its LEC roster for the 2023 season, starring renowned botlaner Steven “Hans Sama” Liv.

G2 Esports has unveiled its League of Legends roster for the upcoming season 2023, confirming speculations that have been swirling in the scene for weeks. After spending a year with Excel Esports, the Slovenian support Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle has rejoined G2 Esports. He was a member of the storied 2019 G2 roster, that won the Mid-Season Invitational and advanced to the 2019 Worlds finals. He will be joined by two-time LFL champion, Martin “Yike” Sundelin, who will be the starting jungler for G2 in 2023.

Yike has built a solid reputation over the past year in the European Regional League with French esports organization LDLC OL. G2 Esports wasn’t initially interested in the 21-year-old despite the jungler posting impressive stats throughout the year. According to LEC Wooloo, G2 Esports’ initial plan was to shell out 800.000€ to get MAD Lions jungler Javier “Elyoya” Prades Batalla. However, MAD Lions wanted almost 1.1 million Euros for Elyoya, which forced G2 Esports to choose Yike, the explosive rookie and a much more affordable choice. Yike has to fill in the big shoes of Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski, who is widely regarded as the finest jungler in European.

Hans Sama returns to LEC

The European organization rounded out its LCS roster with one of the best bot laner in LCS Steven “Hans Sama” Liv, who is returning to Europe for the 2023 season. As Hans Sama became a free agent after leaving Liquid, several major teams in Europe made all-out efforts to sign him. Karmine Corp, a French organization that has publicly sought a spot in the LEC, was the first team that came close to signing Hans Sama for the upcoming season.

Astralis and the French organization were on the verge of an agreement, but it ultimately fell through, forcing Hans to look for alternatives. SK, MAD Lions, BDS, Vitality, Fnatic, and BDS were also interested in signing Hans, but G2 Esports played their cards right and acquired the superstar for the upcoming season. Furthermore, the organization has retained top laner Sergen “Broken Blade” and mid laner Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard from the 2022 roster. Broken Blade and Caps’ contracts with G2 have been extended to 2024 and 2025, respectively, according to LoL Fandom’s Global Contract Database.
