G2 Esports suffer but beat VP to qualify for Gamers8 2023 semifinals

The last match of the third day of Gamers8 2023 left us with an extraordinary victory of G2 Esports against Virtus.pro (VP) with a score of 2-1. This time, the esports festival held in Saudi Arabia has the best CS:GO teams fighting for a prize pool of $1,000,000. The international squad of G2 Esports and current champions of the IEM Cologne 2023 got an excellent victory over VP by 2-1 after they had to apply a reverse sweep to qualify for the semifinals of the Gamers8 2023. VP came into the series with confidence after eliminating FaZe Clan in their first tournament match. However, G2 Esports showed a much higher level and took the victory.

The series between G2 and VP was played in Mirage, Inferno, and Vertigo.

Mirage

It all started in Mirage, VP’s map pick, where we witnessed an incredible comeback by the Russian squad, which led them to an excellent 16-11 victory. In the first half, G2 Esports was determined to take a partial victory by 9-6. Then, VP woke up at the change of sides thanks to Nikolay “mir” Bityukov and Evgenii “FL1T” Lebedev, to come back and take the victory by 16-11.

Inferno

Then, on the second map, Inferno, things started to turn around for G2 despite them losing the first half with a tight 7-8 against. However, at the change of sides, G2’s offense, led by Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač, was mind-blowing, and they managed a 9-1 run to take the 16-9 win and even the series 1-1.

Vertigo

Finally, the teams held a pitched battle in Vertigo, where Virtus.pro started extremely well on their T-side by taking a 10-5 partial victory in the first half. However, this only made Nikola “NiKo” Kovač, Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov, and huNter- wake up, as they won the first 6 rounds to put themselves 11-10 on the scoreboard. Then, VP evened the score by 12-12, but this remained there, as G2 managed to win the last 4 rounds to take the win by 16-12 to complete the reverse sweep.
