We are about to close the year 2022, full of many emotions at all levels of competitive esports. But unfortunately, this also means that many stars of different video games have decided to hang up their mice and thus devote themselves to other activities.

One of the most popular esports in the world, Dota 2, does not escape from this. And in 2022, we have had to say goodbye to some of the legends who have delighted us with a spectacular ability to play this videogame.

Dota 2 Legends

In the last ten years, we have witnessed the birth, development, and consecration of different players in the competitive scene of Dota 2, to the point that right now, we call them: Legends.

In 2022 we have had to say goodbye to some of them, especially after failing to meet the expectations in The International 11.

After enjoying one of the most spectacular and competitive seasons in Dota 2, we will have to say goodbye to great players.

Here are some of the legendary Dota 2 players who retired in 2022.

MATUMBAMAN

One of the most bitter farewells of this 2022 was that of Lasse “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen after The International 11, where we could enjoy his last cartridges in the competitive scene of Dota 2.

This legendary Finnish player had planned to retire after the end of the 2022 season. However, many thought that after his extraordinary performance in The International 11, where he finished in third place with his team Team Liquid, MATUMBAMAN would back down and play at least one more year.

But no, the player retired and declared he said:

“I played Dota all my adult life; I don’t even know what’s real life. So I’ll go out there and figure out something fun to do.”

“I have plans, but every time people ask me, I tell them different things. For example, I tell some people I’ll become a professional sailor; others, I tell them I’ll make my own video game.”

Faith_bian

Zhang “Faith_bian” Ruida announced his retirement from Dota 2 after fighting the last battle in The International 11. This player is one of the most successful in the history of this esports, showing spectacular performance throughout his career.

At only 24 years old, Faith_bian pointed out that, despite still having a tremendous competitive level, he wants to embark on a new destiny in his life:

“I will retire after TI11, leave the arena for good and start a new chapter. I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, and I think it’s the right thing to do, though inevitably with some regret.”

Somnus

One of the most relentless Mid Laners we’ve observed in the Dota 2 competitive scene is Lu “Somnus” Yao.

“My youth (referring to his Dota 2 career) is bound to have heartaches and hardships. Thank you all for your concern and tokens of encouragement. My youth is over. Somnus out”

Somnus was part of the Royal Never Give Up team this season, where he qualified for the seventh time in his career to The International.

His dream of winning this prestigious event was cut short after RNG lost in the TI qualifiers when they had to play in isolation due to having contracted COVID-19 days earlier.

Nikobaby

Nikolay “Nikobaby” Nikolov, well known for his extraordinary time at Alliance, announced his retirement through a Twitch broadcast. He stated that he is tired of competition and wants to focus on his private life.

After eight years in the professional Dota 2 scene, Nikobaby has decided it’s time for something new.

“I spent the last 6-7 years inside virtual reality for 14-15 hours daily. But now I want to enter a new page in my life. I have invested all of the money that I earned so I can secure a life for myself outside of it. Now I just read a lot, try to learn about life, and connect with people. We’ll see; I haven’t planned a future too far ahead.”

Ori

There is no doubt that the name Ori is one of the best known in the Chinese region of Dota 2, and in this season, 2022, that has just ended, he showed a spectacular level of play.

Ori’s retirement took everyone by surprise after it was announced by his team, Team Aster. However, there were no rumors that Ori would want to retire after a great season, which he crowned with fourth place in the TI.

Ori’s retirement is rumored to be his parents, who had probably found him a new job.
