As recently announced on Twitter, Fall Guys has reached over 50 million players in the two weeks since its free-to-play launch on June 21st. The game has been called a “dead game” lately, however, with the transition to free-to-play, the title has made sure that such statements are a thing of the past.

While players still have the option to pay for a Season Pass and other cosmetics, the base game is now free for the first time (although it’s no longer available on Steam and has since moved to the Epic Games Launcher), which many have allows new players to immerse themselves in the world of Fall Guys for the first time.

Free to Play creates a massive rush

In addition to the free-to-play status, the game was also released for Xbox and Nintendo Switch two weeks ago to offer even more platforms to play. With the help of an Epic Games Store account, players can now progress across all four platforms and earn crowns, kudos, and seasonal progress that can be carried over. All costumes and cosmetics are accessible on all platforms as long as the game is connected to the same Epic account.

Additionally, Fall Guys has also hosted numerous special events during the first two weeks of its free-to-play era, giving players limited-time rewards for participating in special playlists and challenges. Fall Guys developer Mediatonic has teamed up with 343 and Halo for the Spartan Showdown event, as well as Fortnite and Rocket League during Crown Clash. Players could also earn rewards in these games, not just in Fall Guys.

Starting July 7th, there will be an Assassin’s Creed event where players can complete the Abstergo challenges to unlock various event-themed cosmetics. Players can also purchase special costumes inspired by Valhalla from the Fall Guys in-game shop.

50 million players cracked

The move to free-to-play has given the game a decent revival on the major platforms. From October 2021 to May 2022, the game averaged around 7,000 players and peaked at just under 20,000 on Steam. In the last 30 days, the average has increased to 22,800 players and peaked at almost 60,000. On Twitch, the peak and average viewership figures over the past month have been the highest since September 2020. Over 50 million people have played the game since the transition to free-to-play.

The fact that Fall Guys saw such a massive increase in player numbers two years after the game’s initial release shows the strength of the free-to-play model. Even though Mediatronics no longer earns revenue from new players, the Season Pass and purchasable cosmetics can make up the difference.
