Shopify Rebellion’s main rivals in DPC 2023 NA Division I

Despite Evil Geniuses’ decision to exit the region and move to South America, the North American DPC league looks great. The former EG roster managed to find another great organization to sign them and there are some new teams here that might prove to be very strong.

The competition starts on January 8 and will end on January 29. Every team will play one best-of-three match against every other opponent in the division. This means that seven matches will be played by each competitor. Only two Major spots are available.

Participants

The participants in Tour 1 of North America’s Division I are these:

  • Shopify Rebellion
  • Thiuth Gaming
  • Nouns
  • TMS
  • B8
  • 5RATFORCESTAFF
  • Alpha
  • Wildcard Gaming

There are a lot of new teams on this list. Only TSM and Nouns are easy to recognize. B8 are also quite famous because Danil “Dendi” Ishutin, who will compete as part of this team. His decision to move to North America is a bit strange but he probably feared what might happen next in Ukraine.

Favorites

The big favorites to win the top two spots are Shopify Rebellion and TSM. Soniqs released their roster and lost their Division I spot. The biggest battles in 2022 took place between them (previously known as Quincy Crew), Evil Geniuses, and TSM.

With Soniqs out of the picture, the former EG roster and TSM should easily dominate the region. The strongest team is, of course, Shopify Rebellion. Internationally, it’s doubtful that they’ll achieve something important in 2023. But in North America, they should easily beat everyone except for TSM.

Tal “Fly” Aizik and his crew are very experienced and have been playing together for several years. This gives them a big edge over the other contestants. However, it remains to be seen how well they can play with Jonas “SabeRLight-“ Volek as their new offlaner.

This player has been transferred to Rebellion just a few weeks ago and there’s always a chance that the synergy between a new player and the existing ones will not work.

Most of the other teams are small and have almost no chance of causing upsets. Nouns and B8 are the only ones that might cause create problems. Not much is known about Dendi’s new stack and in all likelihood, they won’t turn into some scary NA monster.

CIS Dota is known to be very strong, but this is not a serious team that can truly threaten Rebellion. As for nouns, they have a few strong players, but that probably won’t be enough to make a difference.
