Faker’s had another rough year with T1 in LCK. His team finished the Spring Split in 2nd place and won the Playoffs. But it’s the Summer Split that really counts for Worlds. So this victory was completely useless. Normally, it would have offered him the chance to play in Mid-Season Invitational 2020. But that event was cancelled due to the ongoing global crisis.

In the Summer Split, T1 finished 4th with 13 wins and 5 losses. Its record wasn’t bad, but three other teams did even better: DAMWON Gaming (16 W – 2 L), DragonX (15 W – 3 L), and Gen.G Esports (14 W – 4 L). Unfortunately for Faker, one of these teams will be his opponent in the last match of LCK Regional Finals 2020.

T1 vs. Gen.G Esports

LCK Regional Finals 2020 started with 4 participants: Gen.G Esports, T1, Afreeca Freecs, and KT Rolster. In the first match, Afreeca easily defeated KT Rolster with a score of 3 – 0. Next they faced T1 and the match ended with a score of 3 – 1 in Faker’s favor. No doubt, this was a pleasant revenge for him after what happened in the Wildcard of LCK Summer 2020 Playoffs. The only problem is that Gen.G smashed Afreeca Freecs in that tournament without losing a single game and then almost managed to beat DragonX as well.

During the Group Stage of LCK Summer 2020, T1 encountered Gen.G Esports twice. In one of these matches they won with a score of 2 – 0. In the other they lost with the same score. So in theory, anything could happen. But the stats show Gen.G as the favorite here.

This will be Faker’s most important match of the season, with the exception of the ones he will play at Worlds if he wins. Only one of these two teams goes to Worlds 2020 and we’ll find out which one today. If Faker is allowed to play, he might be able to lead his team to a victory. But he may be kept on the bench and even if he’s allowed to do his thing, he may not succeed in carrying this squad. There are many weaknesses on T1’s roster and it’s hard to ignore some of the losses they suffered this season. But, as I said before, Faker may the savior his team desperately needs.
