Being a professional esports player carries many responsibilities, but being the GOAT and the best of all time in LoL is much more important. In the case of Lee “Faker” Sang-Hyeok, he is undoubtedly the best player in the history of this video game and, of course, the one who has earned the most money in the competitive scene. However, this does not alienate players from controversies and Internet threats.

In this opportunity, the local police in South Korea guard the main offices of T1 after Faker received several death threats over the Internet.

As we all know, in competitive video games, some people take it upon themselves to damage the competitive experience of others by taking different attitudes behind a screen and on the Internet. However, the fact that the local South Korean police are at T1’s offices makes us think that Faker took the death threats he received on the Internet very seriously.

Faker receives death threats on the Internet

According to a report a few hours ago by Yonhap New, local police in Seoul, South Korea, received a complaint from Faker that he received death threats on the Internet.

According to the report, Faker received the death threats last August 10, 2023, on an all-Korean forum called DC Inside. According to the police report and, of course, as stated by Faker, this “anonymous” user threatened to go to the T1 facility where the LCK legend is usually located to “harm” him with a firearm.

As a result of these threats and, as noted in the tweet above, the local police sent a patrol with several officers to ensure that Faker was safe.

Culprit identified

On the other hand, it is also highlighted in the Yonhap New report that the police have already identified this “anonymous” user and are tracking him through his IP address to proceed to arrest him.

Similarly, T1 issued a statement last Friday, August 11, confirming that an official report was made to the police. In addition, a T1 spokesperson said:

“We are actively investigating and responding with the highest priority.”

LCK also speaks out

On the other hand, the LCK also took sides in this situation and promised the safety of all players and team members for the remainder of the LCK playoffs and in the finals. In addition, the LCK mentions that they will increase security at the venues due to the increase in “violent” incidents, where “threats” of violence are included.

There is a nationwide issue in South Korea, as different stabbing attacks have been reported. In the last few hours, local police have identified and arrested hundreds of people making Internet threats.

Faker and T1 are facing Gen.G in the Upper Bracket final for the pass to the LCK Summer 2023 Grand Final. Remember, only the winner of LCK Summer 2023 gets a ticket to Worlds 2023.
