Before the event, fans and analysts had already predicted that G2 Esports would secure a Grand Finals ticket with relative ease. And they just did that in a dominant match over FunPlus Phoenix, who had absolutely no chance whatsoever. Team Liquid were also able to win their duel versus the Ninjas in Pyjamas, eliminating them from the BLAST Twitch Invitational.

The Elimination Match between NiP and Liquid didn’t take long to complete. Adil “ScreaM” Benrlitom showed up in full force and secured 45 kills in these two short maps. On Reyna, he practically outplayed the Ninjas, which was especially visible during the defense rounds. Enzo “Fearoth” Mestari tried his best to keep his team afloat, but his mates were unable to keep up with Liquid. The team surpassed NiP with 13-5 and 13-9, advancing to the Lower Bracket Finals.

Afterwards, FPX had their big chance at taking down the G2 juggernaut. They could have made esports history by upsetting this superteam. While the first match of the day was already quite short, this one was a blowout victory and set new records for G2, who have proven yet again to the absolute best VALORANT team in Europe. FPX managed to acquire 3 meager rounds on each map, respectively. On Split, G2 led 10-2 at halftime, on Ascent they “only” managed to get 9 rounds on the board after the first half. Patryk “paTiTek” Fabrowski and Ardis “ardiis” Svarenieks basically shared all the kills between themselves, netting 29 and 34, respectively. After this short Best-of-Three, G2 Esports were already booked for the Grand Finals of the BLAST Twitch Invitational.

IS THIS G2’S NEXT TROPHY ALREADY?

At this point, who can possibly argue that there is another team worthy of the Grand Finals victory? FPX may have managed to defeat Liquid with ease, but they were absolutely dismantled by G2 afterwards. Of course they can learn and adjust, but how much can Kirill “ANGE1” Karasiow and company get done within one single day?

So far, mixwell and his colleagues have played even better than before. Their defense is virtually watertight, and on the offense, the boys can impress with their tactical abilities and quick decision-making. There is just no team as individually capable as this G2 roster. The bottom line is, G2 Esports look poised to win yet another IGNITION Series trophy at this event.

Their opponents for the Grand Finals are yet to be decided. Today, Team Liquid and FPX will fight for the slot. If everything goes the way it did in the Opening Match, then we can expect FunPlus Phoenix to meet G2 Esports again.
