In 2022, Excel Esports were just another team in the LEC. There was nothing impressive about them and the results were completely average. They finished both Splits in sixth place and missed Worlds.

A team with these results is generally expected to continue on the same path and not excel at anything. But Excel Esports have apparently decided to put an end to mediocrity and they did it in the only way they could have done it, by purchasing a formidable roster.

Excel Esports’ new roster

Only one player from Excel’s 2022 roster is still competing for the club: Patrik “Patrik” Jiru. He joined at the end of 2019 and has been a decent ADC. But now he will be joined by some truly spectacular competitors.

One of them is Andrei “Odoamne” Pascu, who played for Rogue in 2022 and had an incredible year: second place in LEC Spring, first place in LEC Summer, and fifth-eight place at Worlds. It’s hard to ask for more from a European team. Odoamne’s experience will be extremely valuable for Excel.

Another great player that joined is Raphael “Targamas” Crabbe. The 22-year-old is one of the best support players in the world. In 2022, he played for G2 Esports and had similar results to Odoamne: first place in LEC Spring, third-fourth place at MSI, second place in LEC Summer, and 11th-14th place at Worlds.

The third player is Andrei “Xerxe” Dragomir. He’s only 23 and he will be the team’s jungler. In 2022, Xerxe played for Astralis. His team had a terrible season, finishing nineth and tenth in LEC but he didn’t play that badly. The main issue was the lack of coherence in the roster.

Odoamne probably proposed him for the jungler position because they are from the same country. If his skills are great, there’s no reason to hold any prejudice against him based on the fact that he played for the weakest team in the European league.

The fourth player is Vincent “Vetheo” Berrie, who will be the team’s midlaner. He played for Misfits in 2022, so he’s definitely one of the more skilled mid players in LEC. It remains to be seen what he can do when he’s surrounded by great strategic minds who have the determination to be the best not just regionally, but in the world as well.

Will it work?

Based on the player composition, Excel’s chances of qualifying for Worlds are very high. They might not secure one of the group stage spots, but they will almost certainly secure a play-in spot.
