The reigning VALORANT Champions 2023, Evil Geniuses, announced the departure of several of their players from their reserve roster after winning the season’s last tournament. As a result, these players are now unrestricted free agents and can find themselves a new home for the upcoming VCT season.

As we know, Evil Geniuses is an organization that is used to having many players in their lineups, whatever the esports, and in VALORANT, it is no exception. However, now Vincent “Apotheon” Le, Brendan “BcJ” Jensen, Jacob “icy” Lange, Jeffrey “Reformed” Lu, and Coach Addison “zecK” Gorzec are free agents and are looking for a new team for next season.

This is somewhat surprising news, considering that EG is coming from being VALORANT Champion 2023. However, having so many players on a roster makes the team’s finances a bit hit.

Evil Geniuses announce the departure of several players

Through a post on their Twitter account, Evil Geniuses confirmed that Reformed, Apotheon, icy, BcJ, and zecK are unrestricted free agents. In addition, they also announced that Kyle “ScrewFace” Jensen remains on the team’s roster, but they are looking for “options” for him to find a new home.

In the official statement, EG mentioned that these players’ level of play is so high that they crushed all the teams in the VCT Americas. Moreover, their excellent play provided a mind-blowing level of practice for the team’s starting squad. However, the boys had no competition to work with, so the only thing that motivated them was to improve themselves and the starting lineup.

Reformed is the most experienced player to leave the organization, as he came to EG in January 2022. However, he was not part of the team’s starting five after the team received an invitation to play in the VCT franchise system in 2023.

On the other hand, BcJ, in particular, has been one of the team’s most impressive and promising signings before the start of the season. But after an underperforming first part of the season, he was benched for the arrival of Max “Demon1” Mazanov.

Winter of Esports attacks EG

In the statement, EG mentioned the changes that originated in the VCT ahead of the 2024 season and, above all, the Esports winter that, sooner or later, will come to the organizations. As a result, EG believes that they are unsure how to handle a large squad for the upcoming season and that these players deserve a chance to be starters in any other top-tier team in the VCT.

Similarly, reports have surfaced recently that several teams would cut back on player salaries.
