ESL Challenger at DreamHack Winter started with some really weird results, at least in group B. In group A, Monte did exactly what we expected them to do and won relatively easily against both opponents.

The first one was TYLOO while the second one was Nouns. However, nobody expected MIBR to triumph over GamerLegion and Virtus.pro. Both of these teams are supposedly much stronger than them. The scores clearly reflect that the matches were hard (13-9, 25-22). But on paper, GL and VP should have won quite easily.

Group A results

Group A started with Monte’s victory against Tyloo, followed by Nouns’ victory against Eternal Fire. Once again, despite having some IGL responsibilities, sdy did a fantastic job and finished the game with a rating 2.0 of 1.80. His KD score was 21-10.

Because of the best-of-one format, we didn’t have the chance to see what he can do on a map different than Anubis, which is known to be one of Monte’s favorites.

Nouns struggled against their Turkish opponents, and had to make a comeback in the second half of Vertigo. The only reason why they won was that MarKE had a great performance: 25-16, with a rating 2.0 of 1.55.

In the winners match, Monte played really well and sdy carried them once again, finishing the match with a rating 2.0 of 1.47. This time, the battle took place on Ancient.

Today, we will discover who else qualifies for the playoffs from this group. TYLOO and EF will play an elimination match, and then the winner will compete against Nouns in the decider match.

Group B results

Virtus.pro started this group with a match against 3DMAX, a French team that includes players like Lucky and hAdji. VP struggled a bit, but still won 13-9, which is a comfortable score in the new format.

In the other match, MIBR defeated GamerLegion with the same score and got carried by insani, whose 23-13 score was very impressive.

In the winners match, VP and MIBR played almost the equivalent of two maps in one. The final score, after overtime, was 22-25 in favor of MIBR. Unfortunately for VP, mir and fame did not do enough to help their team and finished with terrible scores: 23-37 and 21-33.

In the elimination match, the French from 3DMAX were defeated by GL despite winning the first map. The decider match will be played today.
