One of the most popular external matchmaking platforms in the CS:GO community, ESEA, will delay the start of the next season (Season 46) until CS2 is released. Let’s remember that ESEA has been one of the most important tournament organizers in the entire history of CS:GO, especially in online tournaments.

This decision makes us think different things about the possible launch of CS2. First of all, we should clarify that both ESEA and FACEIT are platforms acquired by ESL FACEIT Group, one of the largest tournament organizers that exist in the world. In addition, ESL also gave some hints that CS2 could be launched in the next few weeks, as they are “hopeful” that the IEM Cologne 2023, which will be played at the end of July 2023, will be played on the new game.

Everything is currently a mystery on the part of Valve, who have not yet given any clues regarding the official release of CS2. In the meantime, we must continue to focus on the busy days regarding the teams’ movements.

ESEA delays the start of Season 46

CS:GO’s external MM platform, ESEA, is delaying the start of Season 46. This news came to light via a Tweet from Dylan “dyragu” G, a player who asked one of the ESEA admins regarding the start of the new season. Subsequently, the admin, who we do not know his name, replied that season 46 would be played in CS2, as they do not want to change the game in the middle of the season to avoid integrity issues.

For those who have never played a season on ESEA, we can make mention that each season has tournaments for the different levels of competition that are on the platform, i.e.:

  • Open
  • Intermediate
  • Main
  • Advance
  • ESL Challenger League (ECL)

As we can see, this is a pyramid or ladder, whatever we want to call it, where any small team can climb up to the ECL. As a result, the “small” teams could fight for a place in any of the editions of the ESL Pro League each year. This gives us an indication of how important the tournaments organized on the ESEA platform are.

ESEA season 46 at all levels was scheduled to start in the first weeks of July, but now ESEA will wait for the official launch of CS2. In addition, the ESEA admin also said that the season’s chances of starting in the first two weeks of July are “extremely low.”

ESL insists that CS2 will be coming soon

As we have mentioned, the ESL holds out a small hope, or is “cautiously optimistic,” as they have defined themselves, that IEM Cologne 2023 will be played in CS2. However, this will only be possible if Valve tries to fix all the bugs and present the new game in an outstanding competitive state.

Right now, everyone in the community is in anticipation of what will happen regarding the release of CS2 and even when it will be ready to be played professionally. Valve announced that the release of the new game would be in the Summer of 2023, and today we are precisely entering this season of the year that is highly anticipated by many.
