Stage 1 of Elite League is over and a lot of fan-favorites are out of the race. Team Secret, Nigma Galaxy, and nouns are among them. Unfortunately for Puppey and KuroKy, their teams are simply not strong enough at this point to compete against the world’s best.

The sadder part is that this stage did not even feature the world’s top eight teams. Those teams will start the tournament in stage 2.

Results

In stage 1 of Elite League, eight teams advanced to stage 2 and another eight teams were eliminated. Among the winners, OG, Tundra Esports, and Blacklist International are the most notable. But they weren’t the most successful.

BOOM Esports and Entity ended the stage with a perfect record. In the case of BOOM, the reason why they’ve been so successful is not hard to guess. Several players were part of the Thunder Awaken roster that finished 5th – 6th at The International 2022.

In Entity’s case, their success is quite surprising but still explainable given the fact that players like No[o]ne- and watson occupy key positions on their roster.

In the case of OG, PSG Quest, and Tundra Esports, the 3 W – 1 L record makes perfect sense. These are very strong teams whose players have been around for a long time. OG have Ceb as their captain, PSG Quest have TA2000 as their carry, and Tundra Esports have Pure~ and Topson, two formidable players with a lot of great results.

Pure~ reached 13.000 MMR last year while Topson is a two-time TI winner with OG. This puts him in a very special class of Dota 2 players.

In the first stage of Elite League, OG lost against Entity, Quest lost against BOOM Esports, and Tundra lost against HEROIC.

Aurora, Blacklist International, and HEROIC were the three remaining teams who qualified for stage 2.

Among the teams who lost, we have a lot of famous names. But these names don’t mean much at this point because they’ve been irrelevant for a long time. Here’s the complete list:

  • Talon Esports
  • Team Secret
  • Virtus.pro
  • KEV
  • Nigma Galaxy
  • Nouns
  • 9Pandas
  • Rest Farmers

For Team Secret and Nigma, this event started with a victory but continued with tough matches and unpleasant defeats. Nigma were defeated and eliminated by Secret in the 4th round. Then, in the 5th round, Puppey himself was eliminated by Aurora. Most likely, both teams will miss The International this year.
