Despite the fact that we haven’t seen him win a Worlds title in more than five years, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok is still the most famous player in League of Legends and also the most accomplished.

His three Worlds titles, eight LCK titles, and two MSI titles have consolidated his legacy. Even if he doesn’t win anything else until he retires, he will still be remembered as a legendary player who has changed the game forever.

500 wins

The LCK started in 2013 and was preceded by a series of tournaments named Champions, which established League of Legends as an esport in South Korea. As soon as the LCK began, a lot of players in the region started to take it more seriously. And Faker was among them.

He’s 26 right now, so he was probably around 17 at the time. For a 17-year-old to be signed by one of the league’s strongest teams, T1 (back then it was called SKT), it’s quite impressive. And as soon as he was given the opportunity to play for them, he started winning match after match.

In the first two seasons, SKT won three of the four splits. They got a fourth victory in the Spring Split of 2017, but then they vanished for around two years. And then, one more time, they won the league in the Spring Split and lost their way for a while.

2017 was the last year when Faker had a real chance of winning Worlds. He finished second that year, after losing against Samsung Galaxy in the Grand Final (0-3).

Locally, T1 have always had decent results. Of course, it’s hard to look at some of their seasons as failures, but that’s because of the overall expectations that everyone has from them. In reality, T1 have won the majority of their matches every single year.

In 2022, Faker’s team finished the Spring Split with a phenomenal record: 18 W – 0 L and a total map score of +29. This level of perfection is hard to attain in any league, let alone the LCK!

Now, during the Summer Split, T1 are still doing great, although not as great as they did before. Their current record in the league is 6 W – 1 L.

Over the years, Faker has added match victory after match victory and now he’s reached a round number of wins: 500. May he win 500 more! And probably will if he chooses to have a long career in esports as a professional LoL player.
