The group stage of Elite League is almost over and we now know with a high probability who is going to advance to the playoffs. On day 4, there were a lot of upsets, often involving the same team twice.

Group A Results

OG lost against Team Spirit. The CIS squad was not supposed to win this match because they had lost almost all of their matches up until that point and were clearly out of shape.

Right after losing against the lowest-ranked team in group A, OG miraculously defeated Team Falcons, who are the highest-ranked team in this group.

Falcons hadn’t lost a Dota 2 match in many weeks but OG found a way to beat them, using Puck and some really unusual combinations of heroes. The picked Luna, Doom, Gyrocopter, and Dawnbreaker among others.

G2.iG also suffered their first defeat of the tournament on day 4 of the group stage. But the competitor who bested them was Falcons, so the defeat makes perfect sense.

HEROIC lost twice and were instantly eliminated because they only have one match left to play and have accumulated just three points so far. That’s 3 out of 12 or a 25% win rate.

For Entity, the day ended well. After winning against HEROIC, they climbed to the number 2 position in the group and still have three more matches to play.

With these results, Entity are almost guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. They will be joined by Falcons and two other teams from this group. Those teams could be G2.iG, Azure Ray, and OG.

PSG Quest also have a small chance, but they would need two victories in their last two matches. For HEROIC and Team Spirit, the tournament is pretty much over.

Group B Results

The situation in group B is very tense. Only one team, Blacklist International, had poor results and a win rate of 25%. Everyone else’s win rate is above 40%. In the case of Team Liquid, it is 70%.

On day 4, Liquid drew against Tundra and Xtreme Gaming. Gaimin Gladiators also drew against BOOM Esports. BetBoom Team won their first match against Blacklist International. Aurora drew against Tundra and lost their number 1 spot for now. However, they still have two more matches to play.

For BetBoom and BOOM, the tournament is more or less over. They could still qualify for the playoffs but they’d have to obtain around 3 points in their last two matches. Blacklist International are in an even worse position. They only have 3 points and three matches left to play, but they don’t seem capable of winning any of them.

Liquid will likely qualify because they obtained 7 victories so far and still have two matches to play. Tundra are in a risky position. They too have 7 points, but only one match left to play.

For Aurora, Gaimin Gladiators, and Xtreme Gaming, the last two days will determine their fate. Despite the great start, Aurora might end up losing their top-four position to Extreme and Gladiators.
