It seems that the former Evil Geniuses roster will continue to compete in North America. For a while, everyone believed that they would abandon their project after EG decided to leave the region and move to South America. But it seems that the players were well-connected and succeeded in convincing Shopify to give them a chance to represent it.

Shopify is owned by Tobias Lutke, a StarCraft 2 enthusiast with a net worth of almost $4 billion. So it’s no wonder that he chose to sign these legendary Dota 2 players. Even if they fail completely in 2023, it won’t matter to him. In retrospect, what happened to Tal “Fly” Aizik and his teammates was the best thing possible. EG did them a service.

SabeRLight-‘s transfer to Shopify Rebellion

Unfortunately for Fly, his offlaner, Egor “Nightfall” Grigorenko, joined BetBoom Team on December 8 and missed the boat. It won’t be an issue for him because his new team looks amazing and might end up dominating the Eastern European region. But for Fly, his departure was a problem that needed to be fixed. And the solution was elegant.

SabeRLight-, the 22-year-old who used to play for TSM, decided to join Shopify Rebellion and abandon his former club at the very last moment. This move has greatly strengthened Rebellion and weakened TSM, which means that Fly’s team will have very little regional opposition in 2023.

Right now, there is absolutely nobody in North America who can do something to stop Fly’s team from winning everything that can be won in the region. Quincy Crew (the former Soniqs) lost their most important player, Quinn “Quinn” Callahan, who decided to go to Europe and join Gamin Gladiators.

This move greatly weakened the roster and might result in their failure in 2023. It’s not easy at all to replace someone as experienced and as determined as Quinn, especially in the North American region.

Since TSM and Quincy Crew were the only real opponents to Rebellion, it’s clear that Shopify made an excellent decision to join Dota 2 with this roster. Their presence at every Dota Pro Circuit Major, as well as The International 2023, is almost guaranteed. So, even if their team doesn’t win anything, people will still hear about Shopify.

SabeRLight-‘s prowess

SabeRLight- is a 12000 MMR player with tremendous potential. His former esports clubs include Hippomaniacs, Team Singularity, Quincy Crew, Chaos EC, Chicken Fighters, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and Team Undying (the former TSM).

If he can play for Rebellion as well as he did for TSM, this team will have no problem in the NA region.
