On their second attempt, Old G finally qualify for WEU Division II. This makes Western Europe’s second Dota 2 division very exciting to watch. To be fair, it already was, thanks to the presence of Team Secret and Alliance. But now that Sebastien “Ceb” Debs is here, it’s even more hyped.

Some will argue that Division II is as emotionally charged as Division I. And they’re not far from the truth. Players like Ceb, Clement “Puppey” Ivanov, and Gustav “s4” Magnusson are former TI champions and have huge fan bases who are interested in watching their professional matches.

Old G’s run through the qualifiers

Old G made a first attempt to qualify for WEU’s Division II in Tour 1. But they failed right before the finish line. They survived the Open Qualifier, started the Closed Qualifier with positive results and then, despite having two opportunities to earn their right to play in Division II, they failed to take advantage of them.

Some of the members of that Old G roster decided to quit immediately after this failure. One of them was Johan “N0tail” Sundstein, who probably regrets his decision. Ceb decided to try for a second time without him and succeeded.

Old G won the first Open Qualifier and then went on to win the Closed Qualifier as well. The only team that caused them some issues was PuckChamp. This competitor won a game against them but ended up losing the match (2-1). In the end, PuckChamp qualified as well by winning three consecutive matches in the lower bracket.

Old G’s chances in WEU Division II

Based on everything we know about Ceb and his teammates, who happen to be highly successful Dota 2 players, there’s a high chance that Old G will obtain positive results in Division II and then get promoted to Division I.

It might sound like a fantasy but the fact is that with the exception of Team Secret and Alliance, nobody can realistically steal their Division I spot. And even these two teams are quite frail at the moment.

We’ve already seen Alliance struggling in Tour 1 despite the fact that their rivals weren’t exactly strong. And we also witnessed Secret’s string of defeats in Division I. Puppey was forced to change two players at the end of Tour 1, but the replacements don’t look strong enough to do any better.

This gives Old G a perfect chance to compete against OG and other top WEU teams in Tour 3 of DPC 2023.
