DreamLeague S22 dark horses

DreamLeague S22 will feature 16 strong teams but some of them are underrated because they haven’t done anything major in the past 6-12 months. That doesn’t mean, however, that they can’t get a top four result at this tournament.

Here’s a brief analysis of two teams that have the potential to become dark horses at DreamLeague S22.

OG

OG have been playing with Ceb as their captain and position 5 player since the end of July. This means that by the time DreamLeague S22 begins, they will have had almost seven months of practice. That’s more than enough to reach a high level of cohesion and confidence, and to develop a wide range of sophisticated strategies.

In the recent qualifiers for BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024 and DreamLeague S22, OG won. And they did in convincingly. For example, they beat Tundra Esports 3 – 0 in the Grand Final of the WEU Qualifier for BetBoom Dacha Dubai. And in the other tournament, nobody could stop the in the upper bracket.

The newest OG players are not necessarily among the best in the world at their respective roles, but they are experienced and talented enough to be coachable. And we know that both Ceb and Johan “N0tail” Sundstein enjoy coaching people.

Matthew “Ari” Walker is 20-year-old who used to play for TSM. His greatest accomplishments to date are his 1st place for Tour 1 and Tour 2 of DPC NA Division I, as well as his 9th – 12th place from The International 2023. At the individual level, he’s a 12.000 MMR player.

Adrian “Wisper” Dobles is a 22-year-old with more than $600.000 in tournament prize money. He finished 7th – 8th at The International in 2019 and 2022. He’s easily one of the best players from South America at the moment.

OG could do well at DreamLeague S22. It all depends on good the other teams turn out to be. Regionally, they’ve already demonstrated their capabilities.

Team Falcons

Team Falcons, despite not being one of the world’s best at this point, could dramatically improve their playstyle in the coming months. The qualities of their individual players are exceptional, so it’s only a matter of time before they become a top contender at every single tournament.

The only thing they need, apart from time and effort, is a good captain. Can Ammar “ATF” Al-Assaf play that role? We’ll have to see. He’s currently trying to, but at 18 years old he might be too young for it. It’s probably a better idea to leave this job to Wu “Sneyking” Jingjun, who used to be Tundra’s captain.
