Long before its release later this month, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is already providing players with nearly endless creative possibilities through its incredibly detailed character creator. Capcom released the creation tool as a free standalone download last week, allowing fans to get a head start on designing their ideal Arisen hero and Pawn companion for the upcoming open-world action RPG.

The robust suite of facial, body, and aesthetic customization options has unsurprisingly birthed some truly impressive and wildly creative character designs across social media. While many players are crafting authentic-looking original characters, others are seizing the opportunity to bring famous faces from other gaming franchises into the Dragon’s Dogma universe.

Bringing God of War’s Kratos to Life

One of the most striking recreations so far comes from Reddit user DaftPower, who has painstakingly replicated the spitting image of Kratos from the God of War series. Every unmistakable detail is present, from the signature scar over his right eye and pointed beard to the fiery red tattoo spanning across his bald head and chiseled physique.

DaftPower’s Kratos looks practically ripped straight out of the latest God of War: Ragnarok. The character’s intense scowl and bulging arm and chest muscles sell the uncanny recreation of Sony’s iconic antihero. If the actual gameplay lives up to this phenomenal creation, Dragon’s Dogma 2 may deliver the closest fans have felt to wielding the Blades of Chaos outside of an official God of War title.

Bringing More Gaming Icons to Life

Kratos is hardly alone when it comes to famous characters getting reimagined through Dragon’s Dogma 2’s deep creation suite. Players have used the tools to stunningly accurate effect across a wide range of gaming’s most beloved protagonists and personalities.

Cyberpunk 2077’s Panam has been recreated in incredible detail by artist Mezuka, capturing her signature punk rocker look and attitude. An astonishingly lifelike take on Baldur’s Gate 3’s prickly Shadowheart by Wakiratoshi further demonstrates the character creator’s versatility in recreating vastly different facial structures, hairstyles, and appearance quirks.

In a compilation shared on Twitter, creations ranging from Leon S. Kennedy and Walter White to Lae’zel from Baldur’s Gate 3 and even Bloodborne’s Patches the Untethered truly sell the flexibility of these creation tools. Judging by their sheer output, Dragon’s Dogma 2 players are poised to fill the game world with a cavalcade of unique protagonists both original and familiar.

Unleashing the Weird and Wacky

Not all character designs are rooted in reality, however. Just as creative minds are reimagining iconic personas with incredible accuracy, others are gleefully embracing Dragon’s Dogma 2’s open-ended customization to produce some truly bizarre and outlandish avatars.

Case in point: one player’s attempt to bring the lovable Pokémon mascot Pikachu into the gritty medieval fantasy RPG realm. While far from a convincing visual recreation, this unsettling hairless, sharp-toothed beast is sure to burn itself into many players’ nightmares for years to come.

Meanwhile, a creation dubbed “Chauncey” showcased on ResetEra fully embraces the experimental “Monster Factory” ethos of throwing all conventional character conventions out the window. This lumbering creation sports spindly limbs, wildly disproportionate body segments, beady eyes, and an immense gaping maw that wouldn’t look out of place in the darkest cosmic horror tale.

Pushing the Limits of Fantasy Character Design

While risqué, NSFW, and outright obscene character models are likely to be prohibited to maintain the game’s tone, many of Dragon’s Dogma 2’s stranger creations so far demonstrate just how far players can venture beyond the realm of typical fantasy avatars using these extensive editing tools.

Strange appendages, unconventional body types, and all manners of grotesque and abnormal physiques appear to be fair game thanks to the character creator’s wide array of specific anatomical sculpting options. It will be fascinating to see the kinds of outlandish monstrosities that further emerge once Dragon’s Dogma 2 fully launches.

These incredible character recreations and bold experiments are just the tip of the iceberg for what players can expect from Dragon’s Dogma 2’s character creator when the highly anticipated sequel launches on March 22 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

The deep customization suite has already ignited the community’s imagination, with social media being flooded with new unique Arisen and Pawn designs daily. Those looking to start their journey with a familiar face at their side – whether it be Kratos, Leon Kennedy, or something far stranger – would be wise to download the free character creator tool ahead of time.
