In Southeast Asia, Tour 1 of Dota Pro Circuit 2023 finished with some very surprising results. Two teams that were on nobody’s radar at the start of the competition emerged victorious, while Blacklist International failed to qualify for the Major.

The even bigger surprise is that Fnatic and BOOM Esports, two of the SEA teams that participated in The International 11, were relegated to Division II. Both of them were unrecognizable.

In BOOM’s case, the result is incredible because before the start of the new season, one of the strongest position 5 players in China joined the organization. Yap “xNova” Jian Wei is exceptionally talented and knowledgeable about the game. So to see his team fail like this under his leadership is difficult to comprehend.

The teams that qualified for the Lima Major

The three teams that qualified for the upcoming Lima Major are Execration, Geek Slate, and Talon Esports. Of these three teams, only Talon Esports were among the favorites at the start of the Tour.

Players like Nuengnara “23savage” Teeramahanon and Anucha “Jabz” Jirawong are among the world’s best at their respective roles, so it was expected that Talon will be among the top teams in SEA. In fact, the entire reason for signing Jabz from Fnatic was to give this team the captain it needed to succeed at the highest level.

So far, Talon haven’t played as well as they should have, but they still did a good enough job to qualify for the first Major. It remains to be seen if they can get a top eight result there.

The other two teams that qualified are full of players that nobody outside the region has heard of. How these players managed to beat some of the world’s best competitors is a mystery. But let’s not forget that in Dota 2, it’s not the first time when newcomers proved to be stronger than the veterans.

In Execration’s case, the success was almost flawless. The team had six victories and just one defeat in Tour 1. The team that managed to beat them was Geek Slate.

The teams that failed or were relegated

Apart from Fnatic and BOOM, which got relegated and disappointed everyone, Blacklist International also had a rough start. This organization entered Dota 2 thinking that it would easily conquer Southeast Asia and then achieve something spectacular at The International 2023.

They signed good players for this and hoped for the best. But unfortunately for them, they will not even play at the Lima Major. Perhaps the second Tour will be better.
