Quest Esports managed to secure a spot at The International 12 by placing 2nd in the Western European Qualifier. And now that they have this great opportunity less than 18 months after the team was created, it makes perfect sense for them to arm themselves as best they can in anticipation of the hard matches that lie ahead.

Quest announced yesterday that Nikita “Daxak” Kuzmin, a well-known Russian player, will be coaching them in the next few months. Depending on how the TI12 adventure goes, he might stay as the team’s coach for 2024 as well.

But who is Daxak and what has he accomplished so far?

Daxak’s career in Dota 2

Daxak is a carry player who started to compete professionally in 2016. But his first serious team was Gambit Esports, which signed him in 2017. He spent more than a year competing for them and then played for several weeks for ferzee before going back to Gambit.

He spent another year competing for them before moving to Winstrike Team, where he spent very little time and then got transferred to Ninjas in Pyjamas.

During the next several years, Daxak played for Eastern European organizations like Winstrike, BetBoom Team, HellRaisers, and Level UP. He spent relatively little time everywhere he went, but that’s partly because the results of the teams weren’t great while he was there and the management wanted to make changes.

Regardless of these issues, Daxak seems to have a lot of Dota 2 experience. He might not be one of the world’s best carry players, but he might prove to be an excellent coach. He certainly knows the game well enough to provide expert analysis and valuable research results to his players.

In turn, this might make their drafts a bit more effective against a particular opponent. Based on how Quest played at Riyadh Masters and in the qualifiers for The International 12, it’s clear that the team has a lot of potential.

The impression left by Quest is that they understand just how strong they are and want to do much better than they’ve done so far. This is a team that doesn’t need to get significantly stronger before it can challenge the world’s best competitors. On a good day, they could easily beat almost anyone in the world.

The International is scheduled to start one month from now.
