Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has shattered all of its previous records with 1.8 million active players, proving its unwavering popularity among gamers despite being a decade-old title.

At a peak of 1.8 million concurrent players, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has surpassed its previous online concurrent player record. The game has witnessed nearly a startling 300,000 more concurrent players since the previous March record, making it the game with the second-highest concurrent player count ever, just behind PUBG Battlegrounds’ record of 3.2 million players.

Additionally, a new average player record of 934,359 has also been set over the previous 30 days. The popularity of Counter-Strike 2 and the introduction of stickers and Pick’Ems for the upcoming BLAST Paris Major were the main factors behind the huge surge in players number. According to SteamDB, the game reached a new high in the wee hours of the morning as fans eagerly anticipated one of the biggest esports competitions in the world.

Additional information about Counter-Strike 2 has recently been revealed by Valve, which has sparked a lot of interest and curiosity among fans who are anxious to know what the upcoming installment of the series will bring. The last substantial surge came in March shortly after the Limited Test for CS2 and the CS:GO 2 show matches hosted by Valve ahead of the ESL Pro League Season 17 grand final. All of these new figures are undoubtedly fantastic news for the Counter-Strike community, and many believe that the Paris Major, which will be the final CS:GO Major, will set new viewing records.

CS:GO’s popularity is skyrocketing

Early in March 2020, CS:GO attracted 1 million players for the first time. A month later, it surpassed 1.3 million players to surpass DOTA as the second-most popular Steam game of all time. Since then, the game’s average player count has fluctuated below one million for much of 2021 until rising in 2022 and reaching its current peak. Yet, the variance in player counts in no way suggests that the FPS title was experiencing issues.

CS:GO has maintained its position as the most played and nearly most downloaded game on Steam despite being almost 11 years old. In a gaming industry that is continuously evolving, Valve’s FPS has been one of the world’s most popular online multiplayer games thanks to its competitive nature, engaging gameplay, and ongoing advancements that keep players coming back for more.

Even though it is about to be replaced by its successor, the game has now seen more concurrent users than the next five most popular Steam games put together, including Grand Theft Auto V, Apex Legends, PUBG: Battlegrounds, Dota 2, and Rust.
