Two new teams have sealed their ticket for the next big Dota 2 event in the 2023 season, the Riyadh Masters, Shopify Rebellion, and Evil Geniuses.

While it is true that the announcement came just a few hours ago from the official Dota 2 ESL account, both Shopify Rebellion and EG are deserving, as they have played a great 2023 season. Moreover, it’s all based on their performances in the DreamLeague over the past few months, where both teams have shown exceptional play.

ESL announces that EG and Shopify Rebellion sealed their tickets to Riyadh Masters

Through an official statement on its Twitter account, the ESL announced that Evil Geniuses and Shopify Rebellion are two teams that will be part of the upcoming Riyadh Masters 2023.

As mentioned, this ranking is thanks to the performance of both teams in the two DreamLeague seasons played, i.e., S19 and S20.

On Shopify Rebellion’s part, it is worth noting that although the team did not perform well in the DreamLeague S20, they managed to take third place in the DreamLeague S19, which helped the team meet all the criteria to get their ticket to Riyadh.

Evil Geniuses finished in seventh place in S19 and are currently in a more than favorable position to contest the S20 playoffs.

EG and Shopify join Gaimin Gladiators (winners of S19), Tundra Esports (fourth place in S19), and PSG.LGD (with a spectacular performance in S20 secured their ticket to the Riyadh Masters.

Riyadh Masters 2023 – Details

After the Lima Major, Berlin Major, and upcoming Bali Major, Dota 2 teams are preparing to play a highly anticipated Riyadh Masters 2023, which will be played from July 17-30, 2023. This is the 2023 ESL Pro Tour season finale and will have a juicy prize pool of $15,000,000, the second-highest prize after the annual TI.

To get to the Riyadh Masters, teams must overcome a somewhat simpler path than what they must do to get to The International. While teams must battle through each regional DPC league, Majors, and different qualifiers throughout the year to qualify for the TI, the Riyadh Masters is quicker and easier. Regional qualifiers are not mandatory to play the Riyadh Masters except for the MENA region. Participating teams are invited directly based on their performance during the season and their points at the EPT.
