OpTic Gaming has announced the signing of Call of Duty: Warzone content creator Zack “ZLaner” Lane, with the deal being part of the organization’s assault on the battle royale title. Following a leak from OpTic Texas player “Shotzzy”, many fans were already aware of ZLaner’s pending arrival. Shotzzy accidently broke the news via a stream earlier in the week, shortly before the official announcement.

The much-publicized OpTic-Envy meger was also made official this week, meaning that Envy Warzone streamers Bobby Poff, Teep and Sebas would now be streaming under the banner of OpTic Gaming. The capture of ZLaner is a major coup for the org, with the American having seen his subscribers on YouTube grow to over 365,000. His popularity increased significantly after streaming alongside Dr Disrespect last year, with ZLaner now having over 75,000 followers on Twitch.

Why ZLaner is a Major Coup for OpTic

ZLaner has also made a name for himself as one of the best Warzone players around, having participated in and won a host of tournaments over the past 18 months. It remains unclear as to whether OpTic Warzone will be competing in the Warzone scene or whether they are simply for content creation. The Call of Duty: Warzone World Series gets underway later this month, with fans counting down the days until the event kicks off.

However, with the scene having become ravaged by cheaters in public lobbies, a new competitive scene has emerged through private games. Instead of joining random lobbies, before looking to record the highest number of kills as possible, private lobbies have become the most popular for players.

Why Warzone Has Significant Potential in the eSports Scene

Developer Activision will be looking to address such issues with its Ricochet anti-cheat software, which will hit the Warzone Pacific map in December. OpTic will be one of the org’s looking to benefit from the popularity of Warzone, with their team looking likely to be hugely competitive.

FormaL and Karma remain signed under the OpTic banner, as well as the current Call of Duty League roster, OpTic and Envy are the current frontrunners to take the scene by storm. The Twitch Rivals and Call of Duty World Series of Warzone: Duos NA starts on November 16, with the Trios events in both NA and Europe having already been completed.

It remains to be seen how the Warzone roster of Optic will perform in the future. We will keep you updated.
