After endless rumors about CLG’s possible departure from the competitive scene, CLG’s management finally confirmed the rumors.

The owners of CLG have issued a statement making clear each of the issues that have been rumored about them. From selling their position in the LCS, a wave of massive layoffs and their LoL team would be in limbo.

CLG confirms rumors on structural changes

A couple of days ago, the news was released that CLG would close its doors, and as a consequence, all its staff would be fired; but that was not all; they would also sell their position in the LCS.

After this information, a press release from Madison Square Garden Sports was made public on Digiday, where each change occurring in the organization is commented on.

According to the information in the release, the company is restructuring its operations to put itself in a stronger position. CLG expects the changes to be successful in the long term and is considering the best strategic options for the business.

In addition to hosting the LCS Finals in 2015, MSG debuted in the esports sector in 2017 when it bought a significant stake in CLG. According to information released by the company, this investment in the esports world was made to diversify its holdings and enhance MSG’s range of live events.

On the other hand, CLG was created in 2010 as an LoL squad; but over time, it expanded to become an organization with different squads in titles such as:

  • League of Legends
  • Counter-Strike
  • VALORANT
  • Apex Legends

CLG Esports comments on the company’s future

Finally, the organization’s owners have confirmed each of the rumors that were spoken about them a few days ago. According to what was reported, all the organization’s employees have been notified that they will leave their jobs at the end of this week; they have also been informed that the LoL section will be sold, and the new owners will be NRG Esports.

However, the information disclosed does not specify details regarding the purchase to be made by NRG. As a result, there are still many doubts about CLG; it is not known if NRG will buy the whole organization or only take over the LCS section once the company suspends its operations.

After this news was released, some organization members reacted with sadness and humor. However, there is much uncertainty about what will happen to each of them.
