Following intense speculation at the start of the week, it has now been confirmed that Fnatic top laner Gabriel “Bwipo” Rau will leave the team at the end of the current League of Legends season. The news broke during a LoL live stream, with the 22-year-old having turned down the chance to extend his contract with Fnatic.

Bwipo joined Fnatic back in January 2018, before making his name as one of the leading players in the European League of Legends scene. His time with Fnatic will now end in November this year, with his next step being unclear at this stage.

How Bwipo Broke the News Of His Exit

Speaking via live stream, the Belgian star said: “I don’t want to be on a team like Fnatic if I don’t perform well. I have other options lined up for me, so maybe a different top laner can bring results to Fnatic.” He remains contracted to the team for another six months, where he will be hoping to leave the organization with a bang.

It has certainly not been a good period for both Bwipo and Fnatic, with the team having struggled during the 2021 LEC Spring. Their 9-9 regular season record was followed by a clean sweep at the hands of Schalke 04 in the playoffs. While the LEC Summer Split provides an opportunity for redemption, it is certainly an uncertain time for Fnatic fans.

Why Further Exits Are Expected at Fnatic

This is only compounded by the fact that Oskar “Selfmade” Boderek also appears to be on the verge of departing the team. The veteran jungler is also seemingly unwilling to extend his contract with Fnatic, with a further announcement expected shortly. Speaking on his future, the Polish 21-year-old has said:

“The thing about being on a team like Fnatic is that even if I extend my contract and perform poorly, there’s a chance I’ll get replaced. So to say it’s a big gamble is a bit of an understatement.”

There is no start date for the 2021 League of Legends European Championship of yet, however it would appear that Bwipo and Selfmade will still be wearing orange during the event.
