BLAST Premier Spring Groups: EG and Vitality advance to Group A

After yesterday’s Group A  opening games at the BLAST Premier Spring Groups 2023, the teams we’ll see in the upper and lower bracket Finals have been determined. 

Vitality did very well against Astralis and after winning on both maps, they had the win in their pockets. They also have Lotan “Spinx” Giladi to thank for that, who with 53 kills definitely carried the series for Vitality. With these results, we will see Evil Geniuses against Vitality in Group A’s Upper Final. Astralis and Heroic will fight for victory in the Lower Final.

Evil Geniuses’ surprise win over Heroic

Heroic got off to a good start on the first map Inferno — 16:7. However, EG started the second map Ancient with a win streak of six rounds and were able to finish the first half with 11:4. After the change, however, Heroic managed to make a comeback and equalize the score at 11:11.

EG managed to win the map after 30 rounds and the series went into the decider on Overpass, where EG were able to start again with a 4-round win streak. The match only got more exciting when Heroic equalized and the game went back and forth, but in the end EG won 16:14 also thanks to Vincent “Brehze” Cayonte’s superb performance on the last map.

Vitality convince with a 2-0 win

The series between Vitality and Astralis started on Overpass. After ten rounds and a crucial 1v1 clutch from Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, the score was tied. Vitality were able to prevail in the first half with a strong defense that Astralis could not penetrate until the halftime. After the change of sides, however, Astralis managed to gain an 11:9 lead, but it didn’t last long. Vitality fought back and win the map 16:12.

On the second map Vertigo, Astralis put on an impressive performance, winning six rounds in a row. But with the help of Lotan “Spinx” Giladi, Vitality got back into the game and gained a lead in the second half. Puting pressure on their opponents, Vitality were able to take the game into overtime, where they dominated the rest of the game and took the win at 19:15.

Group A matches will continue on Saturday, January 21. The Upper Final will start at 3PM CET with EG vs. Vitality matchup followed by the Lower Final where Astralis will meet Heroic at 6:30 PM CET. 

But before that, the first matches in Groups B and C will go down today, January 20, starting with FaZe Clan against Complexity at 12AM CET, and continuing with Team Liquid vs. OG at 3PM CET, and with the first Group C matchup of G2 against BIG on 6:30 PM CET.
