Having been a free-agent team for almost eighteen months, Bad News Eagles, an emerging Counter-Strike team, have finally found a new home with Guild Esports.

The team that has been responsible for some of the most shocking shocks in the past two years, Bad News Eagles, has finally found a new home after nearly two years of looking. Guild Esports signed the whole squad to mark their entry into CS 2. Upon joining the organization, the squad was renamed “Guild Eagles,” and they will no longer be competing under their former moniker.

Guild Esports enters CS2 with Bad News Eagles

Even while Guild’s announcement is astounding, this is not the first time the UK-based esports company is experimenting with Valve’s shooter; in March, a female squad tried their hand at Counter-Strike. But by adding a male roster to their ranks, they are stepping out into uncharted territory. A compelling story is added to Guild’s CS2 debut by the roster’s prior success as underdogs. This creates instant fan interest and highlights the benefits of recruiting a seasoned squad rather than assembling a collection of individual talents.

Since the team’s founding, Bad News Eagles have attended three Counter-Strike Majors and have been making waves in the esports scene without the backing of an organization. The Balkan team defeated some of the most skilled and resourceful lineups in the scene to get to the Legends stage in all three Majors. In one of the biggest surprises in IEM Rio CS GO Major 2022 history, they even defeated FaZe Clan.

In addition to having a wealth of talent on the playing roster, the coaching staff is also highly skilled and experienced. Jonatan “Devilwalk” Lundberg and Kevin “kRYSTAL” Amend, who both have an extended experience in Counter-Stike, have also moved to Guild Eagles as part of the coaching team. Devilwalk, a former  Major winner,  has vast experience as a coach, having worked with several tier-one teams, such as FunPlus Phoenix and Fnatic.

Less than six months remain until the first official CS2 Major, organized by PGL, takes place in Copenhagen in March of 2024. If the Guild Eagles play as well as they did in the previous qualifiers, they should have no problem getting into the tournament with their current squad. Anticipating what’s to come, the squad will make their Guild debut at the CCT 2023 Online Finals 4, where their first matchup will be against Preasy in the upper bracket quarterfinal, offering a sneak peek at what they can become with Guild.
