After three seasons of playing in the top tier of League of Legends in the European region, the popular organization, Astralis, appears to be very close to selling its LEC spot.

This news surprises many in the League of Legends competitive scene, as Astralis’ 2023 season is not all bad. In both the Winter and Spring Split, Astralis managed to qualify for the Group Stage. However, in the Summer Split, which is in full swing, the Danish organization finished in ninth place with a 3-6 record.

Reports claim that Astralis is selling its LEC spot

In the last few hours, Alejandro “anonimotum” Gomis, an esports reporter well-known by the community, published a report detailing Astralis selling its spot in the LEC. In addition, the report also highlights that there are several teams very interested in acquiring the spot in the top tier of LoL in EMEA. However, the Danish organization has no agreement with interested teams and has plenty of time to analyze its options.

As we see in Anonimotum’s Tweet, Team Falcons was close to closing the deal with Astralis. However, Riot Games did not authorize the deal, so all negotiations immediately broke down. While it is true that Team Falcons is a well-known organization in the esports scene for having CS:GO, VALORANT, Overwatch, and PUGB teams, let’s remember that its owners are from Saudi Arabia. As a result, Riot may not want to have a Saudi organization within the LEC scene.

On the other hand, Astralis does not plan to merge with another organization to stay in the LEC. Recall that in the 2022 season, Rogue merged with KOI to bring the brand Ibai Llanos and Gerard Pique to the LEC. However, the Danish organization has in mind to completely sell their spot; they are willing to exit the scene completely. In addition, it is also highlighted that several ERL teams would be interested in buying the spot from Astralis.

It is not the first time that Astralis is considering leaving the LEC

As we read, it is not the first time that the Danish organization is involved in many rumors about its possible exit from the LEC. At the same time, these rumors began to circulate in October 2022, and even everything indicated that Karmine Corp, the popular French organization, would be the buyer of the spot. However, negotiations fell through before the start of the 2023 season.

Now, after the elimination of Astralis in the Summer Split 2023 regular season, these rumors have arisen about the possible sale of the spot in the LEC. Many fans and community members claim that KCorp is the ideal candidate to enter the LEC.

On the other hand, this could be a luxury addition, especially concerning the LEC’s fan base. Remember that KCorp has a big fan community in France, so the LEC could benefit greatly from its addition.
