Gamers8, a festival that bills itself as “the world’s largest esports festival,” has announced that CS:GO will be one of the esports that will be contested at the event. In addition, it will feature a juicy prize pool of $1,000,000.

This Gamers8 announcement came yesterday. Recall that a few days ago, it was announced that the first title that will be part of the festival is Dota 2. However, unlike CS:GO, this one has a prize pool of $15,000,000.

Gamers8 announces CS:GO as the second title for its annual festival

The organizers of the “world’s biggest festival,” Gamers8, announced Friday that CS:GO joins the list of esports that will be played at the event. They also highlighted that the prizes to be distributed amount to $1,000,000.

According to the release, the CS:GO tournament at Gamers8 will occur from August 14-20, 2023. Recall that Gamers8 is a festival where many other esports will be played and will last for eight weeks. In addition, the organizers have revealed that $45,000,000 in prizes will be offered, a figure that triples the amount of the previous edition.

Gamers8

As we mentioned, CS:GO is the second esports announced by the organizers for Gamers8 2023. The first one was Dota 2, which will have a tournament called Riyadh Master, which will be in charge of closing the first part of the ESL Pro Tour of Dota 2.

How teams will qualify for this CS:GO tournament is still unclear. In addition, it is not yet known if it will connect with the different ESL tournaments played throughout the year. What is clear is that the dates published by the organizers coincide with the development of the ESL Pro League S18 to be played in Malta between August and September.

This will be the first time CS:GO arrives at Gamers8. In the 2022 edition, Rocket League, Fortnite, Dota 2, and Rainbow Six Siege tournaments were organized.

Saudi Arabia and esports

There is no doubt that there has been an increase in the interest of businessmen in this country in esports. Also, the Gamers8 competition is one of the key pillars supporting Saudi Arabia’s growth and development as it strives to become a dominant esports nation.

The first major step we observed was that Savvy Games Group, one of Saudi Arabia’s PFI ramps, bought in January 2022 ESL and FACEIT for $1.5 billion. As a result, the organization we know today as ESL FACEIT Group originated. Yet, given the numerous allegations of human rights breaches in Saudi Arabia, many community members disapprove of the agreements made by significant organizations with the Saudi government.

That is why ESL will organize the $15,000,000 Dota 2 (Riyadh Master) tournament and the $1,000,000 CS:GO tournament at the Gamers8 festival in 2023.
