Unconfirmed reports are suggesting the world has seen the last of Chinese Dota 2 team LGD Gaming.

A Reddit post by user Sccc64 in the r/DotA2 subreddit showed an alleged screenshot, saying LGD’s head coach Zhang “xiao8” Ning made the announcement.

“In the WeChat fans group, Xiao8 revealed that LGD has disbanded, having their last meal together, with the bill paid by captain Y,” the post reads.

It was just one wave after another of allegedly explosive revelations, with the screenshot translation seemingly revealing more.

The post further reads that LGD owner Pan Jie allegedly confronted Yang “Chalice” Shenyi, accusing him of spreading rumors in his livestream that the organization was taking Wang “Ame” Chunyu’s streaming revenue.

However, Chalice reportedly retaliated by denying all rumors.

“Ruru warned Chalice not to make unfounded statements about LGD in his streams, threatening legal action. Chalice responded defiantly, emphasizing that he wasn’t afraid and mentioned the owed salary of 100,000 RMB,” the translation of the screenshot reads.

More revelations were brought up by the user, saying, “Chalice also disclosed in the fan group that Ruru and a young former Ti7 LFY offlane player, Inflame, had been married and had a daughter before divorcing, revealing this dark history.”

Fragster cannot independently confirm the authenticity of the screenshot.

LGD eventually posted a statement on Twitter, saying they will take a step back from competitive Dota 2 after their performance in recent tournaments.

“After the internal meeting of the team decided from today on, the LGD Dota 2 team will temporarily enter an intermission period. The team will not participate in the upcoming Elite League. After the new lineup adjustment is completed, we will participate in the follow-up tournament,” their statement said.

LGD Gaming added, “We are very sorry to bring such a decision to the fans who continue to follow us.”

Lastly, LGD Gaming added that it would be actively adjusting their lineup to keep track of tournaments. This sorrowful message from the organization comes when rumors and speculations are rife about LGD Gaming allegedly going bankrupt.

This is the second rumor of bankruptcy and disbandment to hit the storied Chinese esports organization, following the earlier rumors about unpaid salaries.

Chalice said in his past livestream, “Just before, before TI qualifiers, pay me all at once. When I was with Ehome, it seemed like there was no news after that, referring to his bonuses after his performance in The International or TI10.

As for Ame, he claimed LGD was “cutting costs” lately, and moved its base of operations from Shanghai to Changsha. “Since they’re not renting the Shanghai place anymore, they should pay me back my money, right? Hope LGD pays me back soon.”

Esports.net also reported that LGD’s operational costs had reportedly surged to US$20 million annually during the pandemic, a significant increase from its pre-pandemic expenditure of merely $9 million per year.

“This financial strain was attributed to a combination of factors. These include heightened operational expenses and reduced sponsorship revenue, which plummeted from $10 million to $3 million annually,” Esports.net reported.
