Xbox CEO Statement
Statements by Xbox CEOIn a recent interview, Phil Spencer talks about Microsoft’s layoffs and admits they are painful decisions. Still, they are necessary to set the company up for long-term success. He also stated that they had held out as long as they could despite the price hikes on Xbox’s titles.
In the interview, Spencer talks about several interesting topics, such as what happened at 343 Industries, the games released in the previous year, the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, and other issues.
Spencer has highlighted the fact that there were relatively few releases of his games in 2022, saying:
“Our promise to our fans is that we have to have a consistent release of amazing games that people can play on our platform, and there’s no question that we didn’t do enough of that in 2022.”
Phil Spencer goes on to talk about the company’s commitment to gamers and acknowledges his fault, and is self-critical
“Fundamentally, that’s my fault. I’m the boss of the business.”
“The commitment we have to our customers to continue to deliver great games is something I take seriously, and 2022 was too weak on games.”
On the other hand, he points out:
“We’re excited about going into 2023 and holding Developer Direct. I felt really good about the games we showed. And also knowing that Starfield is a game we could highlight in its presentation and start 2023 with good momentum.”
Xbox’s expectations for 2023
According to Xbox CEO
“Xbox’s 2023 will be incredibly exciting.”
Redfall and Starfield will be exciting, thanks to Bethesda’s fully integrated into the organization.
“I think about the rest of the work we’re doing this year; it’s going to be exciting. From a production standpoint, we’re coming out of all of the COVID at home, and I think we’ve got a better working rhythm as an industry and things that are going on, and I’m excited.”
“There’ll be some great games in 2023, and this industry will continue to evolve and innovate in ways that hopefully delight players.”
Despite the absence of Xbox announcements at The Game Awards gala, Xbox marketing chief Aaron Greenberg posted the following on his Twitter account:
“We have a lot planned to show and share about an incredibly exciting year ahead for 2023. Appreciate folks are eager to learn and see more. Timing is always key, but don’t worry you will not have to wait too long for what’s next from us.”
