Astralis has announced roster adjustments four days following the end of the 2022 LEC Spring Split. Top laner Matti “WhiteKnight” Sormunen and support player Hampus “promisq” Abrahamsson have left Astralis, the Danish squad that placed last after eight weeks of play.

‘WhiteKnight’ and ‘promisq’ have been an important part of the first-ever Astralis roster in League of Legends and our League of Legends team for the past 1.5 years. We thank them for their contribution and dedication to Astralis and our League of Legends team. On the server, in the office, and as a part of the Astralis Family, Astralis in their official post.

Something went wrong for WhiteKnight, promisq and team Astralis

Astralis recruited WhiteKnight and promisq in November 2020, and they both spent three splits with the squad. WhiteKnight was acquired from BIG, and Promisq was acquired from G2 Esports. Despite failing to advance past ninth place in their initial Spring Split, Astralis finished seventh in the Summer Split, just one win shy from qualifying for the playoffs.

The team also struggled in the Spring Split this year. They went 0-9. They were at the bottom of the table in the first half of the double round-robin. In the second half of the split, Astralis managed to change the tides by defeating top contenders like Rogue and Fnatic, but it was too late. The team finished the regular split in tenth place with a 3-15 total score.

What’s next?

Now that their Spring season is over, Astralis will be on the lookout for new talent to fill the top and support slots. We may see additional exits in the following days since the org will almost certainly be aiming to start over by Summer Split. However, it’s probable that the Astralis will wait until after the playoffs to weigh their alternatives.

For the time being, Jungler Nikolay “Zanzarah” Akatov, mid laner Oliver “Dajor” Ryppa and bot laner Kasper “Kobbe” Kobberup will continue their journey with the team. Zanzarah has been with the team since 2020 while Dajor and Kobbe joined in November.

There has been no word on where these two players will go next. Because the playoffs are yet to begin. It’s possible that we won’t hear anything else until the Spring Split officially ends.
