The third week of the VCT Pacific League in the Asian region has ended, and the favorite teams have taken a step forward and won their respective matches.

DRX and Gen.G will continue their undefeated streak for one more week. Meanwhile, Paper Rex, T1, and Team Secret showed better performance to retain their spot in the top five. Global Esports, Talon, and DFM are still looking to open their points table as they suffered their third continuous defeat. Overall, thrilling VCT Pacific week 2, Week 3 was another banger with some of the intense matchups between Asian titans.

Let’s look at what happened in Week 3 of the VCT Pacific.

RRQ crush DetonatioN FocusMe

RRQ finally got off the start in the points table with a comfortable win over its Japanese counterpart. The very first map of the match was being played on RRQ’s map pick – Haven. Being on the attack side, DFM were completely helpless against RRQ’s defense wall. The first half ended with a 10-2 score. Nothing extraordinary happened in the second half as well. Although DFM secured two more rounds in the end it was RRQ who won the very first map of Haven.

In the second match, DFM chose Pearl as their map, which they had previously performed well on. However, they struggled to defend against RRQ’s offensive strategy. Despite starting with a promising 9-3 lead in the first half, which is often referred to as a “cursed score”, RRQ managed to turn the game around and secure a 13-7 victory. Interestingly, duelists from both teams displayed below-decent performances. On the other hand, David “xffero”  Monangin dropped 42 frags with 319 ACS on Sova and Astra.

Paper Rex dominates T1

In the second match of the day, Paper Rex collided with Korea’s T1. T1 had already established a comfortable position with two consecutive wins. On the other hand, Paper Rex was looking to climb higher in the points table. T1 picked Pearl and started as defenders. However, the map of Pearl proved to be a nightmare for T1’s side as they were only able to win one round in the entire first half. The first half ended with an 11-1 score in favor of Paper Rex. In the latter half, T1 was only able to win two rounds. Paper Rex secured the first map with a one-sided 13-2 score.

On the second map, T1 started off on a strong note after struggling on the first map. Despite Paper Rex’s reputation for dominating on Fracture, T1 managed to hold their own and ended the first half with a respectable score of 5-7. The second half witnessed the same fate as the previous map, T1 were looking completely clueless against Paper Rex’s defense and lost the map with a 13- 6 score. It was Jason “f0rsakeN” Susanto who emerged as MVP with 44 freaking kills.

Global Esports losing streak continues

Things are not looking good for Global Esports as they are still looking for their first international win. For this match, the South Asian representative GES met against Japan’s Zeta Division. Experts were rooting for GES as Zeta were considered a relatively easier opponent for them. The first map was being played on GES map pick Pearl. Looking at the first half, it was an easier one-sided win for GES. However, Zeta put up a competitive fight to lose the first map with a 13-9 score.

Zeta did an unexpected comeback on the second map of Ascent. The first half ended 7-5 in favor of GES. Moving forward, GES failed to capitalize on the lead as Zeta secured the Haven map with a 14-12 score in a thrilling overtime. After this win, the overall score tied at 1-1.

In a decider map, we moved to Haven. It was clearly visible that pushing GES to overtime and defeating them definitely boosted Zeta’s confidence. In both halves, Zeta’s calls and rotation were on point. Ultimately, Zeta grabbed this map with a 13-8 score. Despite losing the first map, they were able to win the latter two maps and match.

DRX’s dominating run continues

DRX continued their impressive run in the tournament, securing their third consecutive win with a dominant performance against Talon Esports. The first map was played on Talon’s map pick, Split, where DRX established their dominance early on and ended the first half with a commanding lead of 12-1. They carried this momentum into the second half and closed out the map with a final score of 13-3.

With such a convincing victory on the first map, DRX headed confidently into the second map of Pearl. Talon puts an impressive fightback on this map but it was DRX who secured the second map as well. With this win, DRX continued to sit on the tabletop. DRX’s Jung “Foxy9” Jae-sung was a difference maker with 25 kills and 306 ACS in total.

Gen.G outshines Team Secret

The final day of Week 3 concluded with a dominant win over the Southeast Asian team, as Gen.G completely thrashed Team Secret with a 2-0 score. We got to witness only two maps — Haven and Fracture. It was Gen.G’s pick and they absolutely utilized their own map’s pick. The first half ended with a 7-5 score for Gen.G. Continuing their aggressive play in the second half as well, Gen.G finished the Haven map with a 13-8 score.

The second map, Fracture, was somehow a close encounter, but Gen.G managed to hold their nerve and win the map by a score of 13-11 to secure their place as the victors of the match. Lee “k1Ng” Seung-won from Gen.G was MVP with 40 frags.
