VCT Americas League Playoffs – Preview

After an intense regular season on the North American servers in the VCT Americas League, the six best teams of the tournament got their ticket to the playoffs. Now they must fight hard to get one of the three slots for the Masters Tokyo.

Throughout the regular season, LOUD and Cloud9 were responsible for demonstrating that their level of play is a step above the rest. However, we must specifically mention Cloud9, a team that was full of a lot of criticism in the weeks leading up to the start of the VCT Americas. But, thanks to spectacular teamwork, the team finished the regular season, tied for first place with LOUD with an 8-1 record.

On the other hand, it should also be noted that the rest of the teams had to fight until the last day and even until the last map to qualify.

VCT Americas League playoffs – Details

Like all regions worldwide, the VCT Americas League playoffs will be played from May 23-28, 2023; we are just a little more than 24 hours away from the start. The qualified teams will have to fight among themselves to try to pull off a surprise and knock LOUD and Cloud9 off the top, two teams undoubtedly the favorites to be the champions.

In addition, let’s remember that the six teams mentioned below will be fighting for the three slots for the Tokyo Masters.

• NRG
• Leviatán
• FURIA
• Evil Geniuses

As mentioned, LOUD and Cloud9 are the tournament’s favorites, as they finished 1-2 in the standings. However, we can’t rule out the guys from NRG, who also performed well throughout the regular season.

Format

The format to be used in the playoffs of the VCT Americas League will be identical to that of the other regions, that is, a Double Elimination format, where all matches, except the Lower Bracket Final and the Grand Final (BO5), are best of three (BO3).

On the other hand, LOUD and C9 start the playoffs directly from the Upper Bracket semifinals since that is the privilege of being 1-2 in the general classification table.

Schedule

As we have mentioned, the VCT Americas League playoffs begin next Tuesday, May 23, and we will have two games corresponding to the quarterfinals:

• Leviatán vs. FURIA Esports – 22:00 CEST
• NRG vs. Evil Geniuses – 02:00 CEST (May 24)

The match winner between Leviatán and FURIA will face LOUD in the tournament’s semifinals next Wednesday, May 24, at 22:00 CEST. On the other hand, the winner of the match between NRG and Evil Geniuses will face LOUD on Thursday, May 25, at 02:00 CEST.

All the VCT Americas League teams, except for LOUD and C9, showed some difficulties throughout the regular season. As a result, we expect intense and exciting matches from the beginning of the playoffs.
