The interest of Usain Bolt, the former Olympic medalist and the fastest man in the world, in esports is not just a story. Through the organization he co-owns, WYLDE, he has opened the first training center dedicated to esports in Ireland.

This is a spectacular opportunity for those young people who dream of becoming esports professionals, no matter what video game they are passionate about.

WYLDE Academy – New Gaming Academy in Cork

On Monday, Simon Coveney, Ireland’s Minister for Enterprise, Trade, and Employment, officially opened the first esports training center in Cork, Ireland, called WYLDE Academy. This center will be powered by Virgin Media’s ultrafast broadband.

This new academy will train professionals in domestic and international esports.

WYLDE Esports, co-owned by Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt. This organization participates in different important international esports competitions.

Another co-owner of the organization, David Cronin, said:

“The opening of the WYLDE Academy is another step in our journey to ensure Ireland is at the forefront of professional e-sports internationally. Sponsors such as Virgin Media and Puma have enabled us to create a training base in Cork for some of the best talents in the world. As a result, this country can create significant employment in gaming and e-sports for future generations.”

On the other hand, Paul Higgins, Virgin Media’s commercial vice president, said:

“Virgin Media recognizes the audiences, participation rates, and growth of gaming and eSports worldwide. Our strategic partnership with WYLDE ensures that we support the development of Irish eSports as we align ourselves with Ireland’s first professional eSports academy.”

WYLDE Esports

WYLDE Esports has teams in Rainbow Six Siege, VALORANT, FIFA, and Rocket League.

The Rainbow Six Siege division will compete in the top tier of the European R6 League thanks to an excellent promotion in the 2022 season. In addition, the team replaced NaVi, who decided to step away from the Rainbow Six competitive scene for a while.

In the 2022 season, WYLDE Esports took home the champions trophy at the EU Gamers Without Borders Championship, which secured a $250,000 donation to UNICEF. They also qualified for the semi-finals of Gamers8 in Saudi Arabia, eliminating the world champions, Space Station Gaming.

On the other hand, the organization recently signed a sponsorship deal with the popular sports brand PUMA in a multi-year contract. Both companies listed this partnership as a “significant” sponsorship deal lasting several years.

David Cronin concluded with:

“Sponsors such as Virgin Media and PUMA have made it possible for us to create a training base in Cork for some of the best talents in the world. As a result, this country has the opportunity to create significant gaming and eSports jobs for future generations.”
