Tundra Esports dominate WEU Division I

After the spectacular results obtained by Team Liquid and Gaimin Gladiators in Tour 1 and Tour 2 of Dota Pro Circuit 2023, the time has come for Tundra Esports to show us their abilities. The team has won the first five matches of Tour 3 and looks almost as strong as it was at The International 2022.

This could result in some very interesting clashes between themselves and the other top teams in Europe and China. It’s pretty obvious that Tundra have started training more seriously in recent weeks. Their motivation probably comes from the knowledge of the fact that several epic events will be taking place in the next two months.

Another reason to train hard right now is that the Bali Major offers a lot more DPC points than the previous two Majors. Winning Tour 3 and then getting a good result at the Major would put Tundra in a very comfortable position. They already have 860 points, so even a regional victory will probably be enough to guarantee their TI invite.

WEU Division I partial results

Apart from Tundra, who are leading the race with a record of 5 W – 0 L, two other teams look destined to go to the Bali Major: Gaimin Gladiators (4 W – 1 L) and Team Liquid (4 W – 2 L). The battle for fourth place takes place between Quest Esports (3 W – 3 L) and Entity (2 W – 3 L). But the bottom three teams might interfere a little bit as well.

D1 Hustlers (1 W – 3 L) still have three more matches left to play. For OG (1 W – 4 L) and Team Secret (1 W – 5 L), there seems to be no hope left. But perhaps OG can avoid getting relegated to Division II. It all depends on what they do against Entity and D1 Hustlers.

Given that Secret’s last match of the Tour will be against Tundra, their odds of success are very close to zero. What will be interesting to see is Clement “Puppey” Ivanov’s decision with respect to his Dota 2 career. Does he want to continue playing or will he retire?

He clearly still enjoys playing the game but at the age of 33, he’s the definition of an esports grandpa. So far, he’s played at every single edition of The International. But this year, he will almost certainly miss the tournament.
