Counter-Strike, Valorant, League of Legends, and Dota 2 are known to everyone, but there are also a lot of games that have an esports scene that none of us would have ever expected.

Some of these games are so strange that you wouldn’t even play them yourself, and yet you can find some people competing in them.

Today we’re going to show you the 10 strangest games that have a competitive scene.

10. Super Swing Golf

In 2006, the clocks in Esports still ran a little differently. There weren’t nearly as many games as there are today, so tournament organizers got creative. This was the case at the World Cyber Games 2006 where the Nintendo Wii game Super Swing Golf was turned into a competitive game.

9. Farming Simulator

Popular Agriculture Simulator has been around for a while, but when you think of the game, esports is probably the last thing that would come to mind. Far from it, because Farming Simulator not only has its own tournaments but since 2019, it has its very own league! The rules are simple, 2 teams of 3 players each, get a field and have to harvest it. Whoever can secure more wheat in the barn within 15 minutes wins the match. The crazy thing is there is even, like in other esport games, a pick & ban system.

8. Clone Hero

The next game should already look relatively familiar to many from the looks of it. Clone Hero is a clone of the guitar game Guitar Hero with a few improvements. You can mod it and let players compete against each other. Shortly after the release of the game, the Clone Hero Championship Series was created and the participants could compete against each other.

7. Zwift

With 7th place, we probably have the most physically demanding game on our list ahead of us, at least. Zwift is a cycling game where players have to ride a real bike and to make it really weird, there are even power-ups as if it were Mario Kart. But what would cycling be without scandals? One of the Zwift pros admitted to using a bot to unlock one of the fastest bikes. Someone must have been tired of Home Workout. Nevertheless, Zwift events attract several thousand spectators and fascinate more and more people.

6. ShaqFu

It sounds like a stupid joke but ShaqFu, one of the worst games of all time that was criticized for its terrible controls, subterranean graphics and horrible storyline briefly had an Esports scene. The 1994 game, which combines basketball star Shaquille O’Neal and Kung Fu, was played at Pax East 2013 and elsewhere. Which is really quite surprising for such a bad game.

5. Catherine

As the name suggests, things are about to get really weird! The story is actually about a man who can’t decide between 2 women. But the game also has a best of 3 multiplayer mode, where the goal is to either take out your opponent or reach the top of the tower first. By changing the map and manipulating the opponent, the game becomes really fun and challenging. I guess people took that as an opportunity to make an Esports scene out of it.

4. Shrek Super Slam

Shrek has always had a very unusual popularity on the Internet. However, no one expected that people would go so far as to turn a Shrek game into an Esports title. What is Super Smash Bros. when you have Shrek Super Slam! After its release in 2005, the Playstation 2 game was probably taken too seriously by some people and that still goes on today. Recently, fans have released a remastered HD version to slam away in even better graphics.

3. The Sims

The Sims has been around forever but it wasn’t even 2 years ago that EA suddenly made it a competitive game. In The Sims Spark’d, 12 contestants competed against each other in front of a panel of judges. In teams of 3, one player had to create the Sims, the next had to build the house and the world, and the last had to come up with a story to go along with the Sims and then recite it. The jury then decides which team did all 3 things the best and the winner gets fat Sims Earnings worth $100,000!

2. Blaston

While VR games still haven’t really made it into every living room, at least one game has already made it into the Esports scene! In Blaston 2 players compete against each other and shoot each other with futuristic weapons until one of them goes down. The different weapons and the possibility to dodge make the game complex enough to play competitively. There have been quite a few tournaments but the developers want it to develop even more and be represented at bigger events. This can really only be topped by our #1 spot!

1. Geoguessr

If you don’t know Geoguessr, you should definitely give it a try. You are dropped somewhere in the world with Google Maps and have to figure out where you are. As a normal player this can take some time but the Geogussr Pros sometimes need a few seconds to know in which country they are. There is a dedicated Geoguessr Reddit League and streams where people compete against each other. The game even has its own meta, because you can keep looking at Google Maps when you move downhill.
