TNC Predator will miss the DPC 2023 season

Eric Redulfin, the CEO and founder of TNC Predator, revealed that the team would not participate in the 2023 DPC season.

While various new organizations are entering the Dota 2 competitive Southeast Asian (SEA) market, TNC Predator, a longtime SEA powerhouse, appears to be taking a hiatus from the competitive scene in 2023. According to Eric Redulfin, the CEO and founder of TNC, the organization will not compete in the next season of the DPC. The organization will, however, return to the competitive scene with a fresh lineup with the goal of winning The International.

Eric Redulfin explained in a video announcement shared on Facebook that the esports company first considered going into the future season but ultimately decided it is best to rebuild. The changes follow a protracted and difficult DPC season that featured roster changes and dismal performances at all three tours of DPC SEA 2021/2022 and ESL One Malaysia 2022 Southeast Asia: Closed Qualifier.

After defeating OG at TI 2016, TNC Predator cemented their spot in the Dota 2 pantheon. The squad also won the 2019 MDL Chengdu Major and the World Electronic Sports Games. However, the team has suffered a major drop in performance during 2022. The roster does not have any real shortcomings in terms of individual player skills, but there is a lack of overall cohesion between the players that may have contributed to the TNC Predator’s failure. TNC Predator finished in 13th position in the qualifying round for The International 2022. Following the outcomes of the third tour in 2022, the squad was disqualified from the second division of the Dota Pro Circuit.

TNC plans to come back stronger

This pause may only be an opportunity for the TNC Predator to refocus and make effective use of this time to assemble a potent lineup for the upcoming DPC season. This one is going to be a little more difficult for the organization, though, since the squad requires a lot of practice time if they want to be among the top teams for the upcoming DPC season. It will be very interesting to see how TNC Predator develops over the next few months, as their decision to take a break from competitive Dota 2 may very well herald some interesting news.

A day ago the organization parted ways with team captain Juan “BDz” Manalo, who joined Execration for the upcoming season. Earlier in November, the organization parted with support Bryle “cml” Alvizo and offlaner Jun “Bok” Kanehara.  With a lot of time until the next DPC season, we may see a very different squad by the time the competition returns, and recent developments within the other Filipino Dota 2 teams point to changes within the rosters.
