The South American qualifier for The International 2022 has begun and its 14 participants are competing for the TI11 ticket reserved for this region, as well as the two other tickets for the Last Chance Qualifier.
Two of the region’s strongest teams are already qualified for The International 11, thanks to their Dota Pro Circuit results. And of the remaining ones, there are only a handful of serious contestants. The winner will be decided on September 7.
SA qualifier favorites
The South American qualifier is attended by these 14 teams:
- Infamous
- Tempest
- Hokori
- SG esports
- No Runes
- Wolf Team
- Infinity
- Ravens
- Dreamers Esports
- Mad Kings
- Qhali
- Balrogs
Of these 14 teams, Infamous, Hokori, and SG esports are the strongest. Wolf team should also be taken seriously, but unfortunately for them, they’ve already dropped to the lower bracket. Hokori defeated them in the first upper bracket match and now they will need to take the long road to victory.
Arguably, given the best-of-three format of all the matches except the Grand Final, Wolf actually have a good chance of accomplishing this goal or at least getting a top three result. There is very little opposition in the region, and they were quite unfortunate to be seeded against one of the top favorites in the first match of the tournament.
Wolf’s roster includes some of the best and most accomplished players in the region: William “hFn” Medeiros, Adriano “4dr” Machado, Otavio “Tavo” Gabriel, and Danylo “Kingrd” Nascimento. Dota 2 veterans will probably know all of them from past editions of The International.
Infamous have Christian “Accel” Cruz on their roster, who is a 26-year-old with a lot of decent career results. One of them was a participation at The International 2017. This team finished the 2021-2022 DPC season 24th with 238 points. They were practically the third best team in South America, after beastcoast and Thunder Awaken.
It's only the first step

Hokori are one of the favorites because they won their first match in the upper bracket and more importantly, because they have Thiago “Thiolicor” Cordeiro, who participated in The International 2021 with SG esports.
His team finished the 2021-2022 DPC season 29th, with 97 points. Regionally, if we exclude the teams that are already qualified, Hokori are for sure a top three competitor.
SG esports had poor results all season but they still have a few players, such as Nicolas “Wij” Moreno and Eliseo “kxy” Temoche, who have a lot of experience in high-tier tournaments. SG have already proved their capabilities in the first upper bracket match against No Runes. The result of that match was 2-1 in their favor.
