In the last few hours, it was announced that Thunderpick, an online casino and esports betting site, will be in charge of organizing a CS:GO World Tournament, which will have a prize pool of $600,000. However, the most remarkable thing about this tournament is that the prize will be distributed in Bitcoin to all winners.

The popularity of cryptocurrencies has been skyrocketing recently, and esports are no exception. Many of the online gambling sites out there today offer cryptocurrencies as payment methods. Now, for an official CS:GO tournament to have cash prizes distributed in this cryptocurrency could mark a before and after in the way tournament organizers award prizes.

Thunderpick host CS:GO World Championship

According to Thunderpick’s official press release, the CS:GO World Championship will have 16 teams from all over the world, fighting for most of the juicy prize pool of $600,000. In addition, it was also announced that the tournament would start next July 10, 2023, and will end in November of the same year.

Thunderpick’s plan with this long-running tournament is to hand out $100,000 in the qualifying stages starting in July. While the remaining $500,000 will be distributed among the winners of the tournament’s final phase in November.

Like different tournaments organized in recent CS:GO times, out of the 16 teams, 8 will be directly invited to the tournament, while the remaining eight will have to fight for their spot through various online qualifiers.

Kelly Sanders, chief strategy officer of the betting platform, Thunderpick, mentioned that the company is very excited about this CS:GO Thunderpick World Championship 2023. In addition, he also highlighted that the prize pool is a “record” in the Counter-Strike competitive scene.

Is the tournament played on CS:GO or CS2?

With the anticipation surrounding the release of Counter-Strike 2, as the Thunderpick World Championship 2023 start dates are known, it stands to reason that this title will be played. However, if Counter-Strike 2 is released in the middle of the tournament, the organizers noted that the switch would be made immediately to CS2.

For now, the only team that has its invitation to the Thunderpick World Championship 2023 is Evil Geniuses. There is no doubt that EG’s direct invitation is because Thunderpick has been an official sponsor of the team for almost three weeks now.

Let’s remember that the 2023 season of Evil Geniuses in CS:GO is disappointing in every way, so the reasons for their invitation must be directly related to the sponsorship contract there.

There is no doubt that this tournament is expected to be the last official CS:GO tournament, so there are a lot of expectations regarding what will happen. In addition, we expect our beloved CS:GO to have an exciting and, above all, action-packed finale.
