The LCS Summer Split 2023 is history, and after a truly spectacular Grand Final, NRG defeated Cloud9 to be crowned champions of the tournament.

Undoubtedly, this is a completely surprising result for everyone in the community and, above all, for the LoL competitive scene in NA. All bookmakers, fans, teams, and players gave Cloud9 as the clear favorites and winners of this LCS Summer Split 2023. However, NRG had an exemplary tournament, arrived without making much noise, and proclaimed themselves champions of the Split.

As in the Lower Bracket Final, NRG had Victor “FBI” Huang playing at an exceptional level, and besides winning the MVP of the series, there is no doubt that he was the team’s MVP during the whole Split. On the other hand, this is a disappointing result for Cloud9 since they saw themselves as champions of Split. However, now they will have to prepare in the best possible way to leave the name of NA high in the next Worlds 2023.

NRG’s Road in the LCS Summer Split 2023

As we mentioned, the fact that NRG are the champions of the LCS Summer Split 2023 surprises everyone in the scene since the team’s path throughout the tournament was complicated.

NRG was nearly eliminated in the Group Stage, as they lost the last two games they played. However, thanks to their 9-9 record, they managed to advance to the playoffs after finishing fifth place in the overall standings.

Then, in the playoffs, NRG started with a bang and, most importantly, with their first upset, defeating Team Liquid 3-1. Then, in the semifinals of the Upper Bracket, they once again hit the table for another 3-1 victory, but this time over Golden Guardians.

In the Upper Bracket Final, NRG faced Cloud9, and although the 3 games of the series were close, they were crushed with a score of 0-3. As a result, NRG had to play the ticket to the Grand Final against Team Liquid in the Lower Bracket. However, it is worth mentioning that NRG had already done the job since, by qualifying for the Upper Bracket Final, they secured their ticket to Worlds 2023.

Finally, in the Lower Bracket Final against Team Liquid, the team overcame all their problems throughout the series to take a 3-2 victory and thus qualify for the Grand Final.

NRG apply a reverse sweep against Cloud9

In the Grand Final match, Cloud9 started very strongly in the first game and, with an aggressive style, they managed to take the victory in 32 minutes and 5 seconds. As a result, Cloud9 was 1-0 ahead in the series.

However, this only made the NRG boys wake up and show all their talent, as, commanded by FBI, they managed to strike back in the second game to even the series 1-1.

Then, in the third game, things were a little more complicated, as both teams had many opportunities to be ahead on the scoreboard. However, NRG prevailed again in the Summoner’s Rift, and after 41 minutes and 56 seconds, they managed to take the victory to put the series 2-1 in their favor.

Finally, in the fourth and last map, Cloud9 tried to face NRG’s inspiration and aggressiveness, but it was not enough. Again, with excellent performance, the FBI managed to annihilate all their C9 rivals to lead NRG to be the champions of the Summer Split 2023.
