The International 12 and Worlds 2023 will take place simultaneously

Unfortunately for MOBA fans who like both Dota 2 and League of Legends, this year they will need to decide which of the two games they care about more. Because the world championship of both is scheduled to take place in October and around the same time.

The International 12, Dota 2’s world championship, will take place between October 12-29, in Seattle, USA. The League of Legends World Championship or Worlds 2023 will take place between October 10 – November 19.

As usual, Worlds will take much longer to complete than TI. But even TI will take much longer to complete than older editions. Not that long ago, Valve used to allocate around 11 days to The International, and only 10 of them featured professional matches. Now, after the format changes and everything else, The competition lasts for 18 days.

That’s a week more than it used to be. However, the number of matches won’t differ that much.

The International 12

TI12 features 20 teams from six regions, including North America, China, and Western Europe. Unfortunately, we do not yet know how big the prize pool is going to be. Historically, The International has always had large prize pools relative to other esports tournaments.

In fact the prize pools were so large that in 2022, TI’s $19 million prize pool was regarded as a huge failure. The changes signaled by Valve, which included the removal of the Battle Pass, may lead to another huge drop.

Many people expect the figure to be somewhere between $5 million and $10 million. But perhaps Valve will surprise us with their generosity. It’s hard to tell.

Worlds 2023

Worlds 2023 features 22 teams from all around the world and will take place in South Korea. LoL’s global coverage is much better than that of Dota 2, and its player base is around 15 times larger. In the PC MOBA department, LoL has more than 90% of the market share.

Worlds 2023 will probably be a very exciting tournament to watch because most of the big names are competing in it.

In particular, people want to see T1 in action. They also want to find out whether China is finally stronger than South Korea in LoL. Based on what we’ve seen so far this year, it certainly appears that LPL teams will win the trophy this time around.
