With 2022 inevitably nearing its end, it’s time for the Game Awards! As always, the best game of the year is chosen here, but there are 30 other interesting categories, including the best esports player. On December 8, the best of the best will be crowned again, and you can decide who will receive the crown.

You can follow the event live on The Gaming Awards Twitch channel and vote for your favorites now on thegameawards.com.

The Game Awards: Esports

The competitive side of gaming is also represented by five categories. In addition to the best esports athlete,  you can vote for the best esports game, best esports team, best esports coach, and best esports event.

The nominations for Best Esports Athlete this year are as follows:

  • Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon (League of Legends)
  • Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok (League of Legends)
  • Find “karrigan” Andersen (CS:GO)
  • Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev (CS:GO)
  • Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker (VALORANT)

The Best Esports Athlete award has been presented since 2014 and the first award was earned by professional Call of Duty player Matthew Haag. Faker has been decorated as the Best Esports Athlete in 2017 and s1mple, who has been among the nominees quite often over the past few years, has won the award in 2021.

Who can make it this year? Even though they are excellent esports players, neither Faker nor s1mple received the highest global award in their respective esports titles this year. So we remain curious to see which of them is this year’s fan favorite.

More esports Game Awards categories

Of course, the best esports games include CS:GO, League of Legends, Dota 2, Valorant and Rocket League. Riot Games must be proud that two of its titles have been nominated.

When it comes to the Best Esports Team, you can choose from FaZe Clan, LA Thieves, Gen.G, LOUD, and DarkZero Esports.

As for the best Esports Coach, you have Andrii “B1AD3” Horodenskyi, Matheus “BZKA” Tarasconi, Erik “D00mbr0s” Sandgren, Robert “Robban” Dahlstrom and Go “Score” Dong-Bin to choose from.

And let’s not forget about the Best Esports Event. This year you can vote for the 2022 League Of Legends World Championship, PGL Major Antwerp 2022, Evo 2022, Valorant Champions 2022, and the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational. There are also two League of Legends events and a Valorant event nominated, highlighting the important position Riot Games holds in the esports space.

Although the IEM Rio Major somehow didn’t get nominated, it was undoubtedly a legendary and unforgettable esports event, that marked the first CS:GO Major on Brazilian soil.
