The IEFS WEC 2023 CS:GO tournament is very close to its end, and the tournament’s Grand Final will feature Team Sweden and Team Germany.

There is no doubt that the tournament has been really exciting from start to finish, and we all expected Team Germany to make it to the finals, as their lineup is full of BIG players. However, it is also worth noting that the tournament had a lot of controversy surrounding Team Ukraine’s situation, as they decided to withdraw in the quarterfinals due to a decision by the organizers.

Team Ukraine withdraws from the tournament

A few days ago, it became known that the IESF delegates voted to remove the veto on Russian teams and players in their tournaments. As a result, Team Ukraine decided to withdraw from both the CS:GO and Dota 2 tournaments, where they were one of the favorites to fight for the champion trophy.

Going back to the teams in the Grand Final, it is worth mentioning that Team Sweden is also justly deserving of this since they have not lost a single match so far in the tournament. On the other hand, we will also have another match (for third place) to be played in the next hours between Team Serbia and Team Uzbekistan.

Team Sweden’s path in this IESF WEC 2023

Team Sweden was drawn into Group C, which it shared with Poland, Australia, Belgium, Guatemala, and Mauritius. Sweden was dominant in the Group Phase, as they managed to win against all their rivals. As a result, the team finished in first place in the Group and, consequently, started the playoffs directly from the quarterfinals.

In the first playoff match, Team Sweden steamrollered Team Romania 2-0 and then applied the same dose 2-0 against Team Serbia in the semifinals.

Now, the team will face the tough lineup of Team Germany (BIG) to be crowned world champions.

Team Germany’s road in the IESF WEC 2023

Team Germany’s path in the tournament was relatively straightforward and, overall, very similar to that of Team Sweden. In the Group Phase, the Germans defeated Romania, Hungary, Mongolia, Argentina, and Vietnam, so by finishing this phase undefeated, they also qualified directly to the quarterfinals of the playoffs.

In the first match of the next phase, Team Germany crushed Team Denmark 2-0 (16-13 on Inferno and 16-10 on Overpass). Then, in the semifinals, they steamrolled Team Uzbekistan 16-12 on both Mirage and Ancient to seal their ticket to the Grand Final.

While it is true that Team Germany is the clear favorite to win this tournament, we expect the Grand Final match to be really exciting and for both teams to show their full potential to win the world champions trophy.
