There is not much we can mention about the current popularity of Valve’s gaming platform, Steam. It is no secret that practically all gamers on PC play on Steam or at least have some games on this platform.
In recent times, Steam has not stopped breaking records concerning its extensive player base, and this weekend has broken one of its records.
Steam passes the 10 million marks
According to SteamDB, the platform’s statistics website, on January 8, 2023, Steam passed the 10 million concurrent in-game user barriers for the second day.
On January 7, Steam reached an all-time high of 32,186,301 connected users, and 10,082,055 were playing simultaneously.

But this did not stop there because yesterday, January 8, they broke their record by registering 33,059,697 players connected and 10,284,568 in-game simultaneously.
This is a new record for the platform, with 10 million active players and a total of 33,078,963 connected users.
As expected, this occurred during the weekend, when most gamers could stay home with their computers instead of going to work or school. However, Valve’s gaming platform has never witnessed such high numbers in its entire history. Therefore, it is very curious that this record is broken now and not during the winter vacations.
Steam’s growth over the last three years
Steam has grown in popularity since the start of the Covid-19 Pandemic, which caused a massive boom in many video games in 2020. As we already know, this was due to people’s enforced isolation in their homes.
In February 2020, this exact simultaneous user count on Steam reached a new high of 18 million, likely to double soon.
Without going too far, in January 2022, Steam reached a maximum peak of 29.1 million players connected simultaneously. This record has been surpassed three times since then, and by far, because, as we mentioned, just yesterday, January 8, 2023, there were more than 33 million users connected.
This data may not make much sense to many since there are no new videogame releases, or big offers, as these have already ended.
On the other hand, if we look at the most played games during this day, the undisputed leader was CS:GO, which reached a peak of 1.08 million players, followed by Dota 2 with 766,096 players. Already in third place, we have Goose Goose Duck with 605,694.
In addition, there were also many players in popular titles such as PUBG, Apex Legends, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Goose Goose Duck
Like you, we were surprised to see this name third on the list.
Goose Goose Duck is a game similar to Among Us, where players must work together to figure out which of them is the evil duck in disguise. This game has recently shot to the top of the Steam charts thanks to its popularity in China.
