On June 2, Sony PlayStation hosted the State of Play presentation, where the company showcased upcoming gaming releases and shared more information about the ones that are in development.

The show lasted for half an hour, however, it was packed with trailers for new titles. Here’s the list of most prominent game releases that are worth paying attention to.

Resident Evil 4 remake announced 

Capcom has announced the remake of Resident Evil 4. The original game was released in 2005 and in the Resident Evil community is considered one of the best titles in the franchise. This is not the first time Capcom redoing its games. We’ve seen remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 in 2019-2020, so it was just a matter of time to see a new rework.  

Release date: March 24, 2023

Resident Evil Village goes VR 

Resident Evil Village, the newest game in the franchise, will be transferred to VR. That means players will be able to finish the whole campaign using only a virtual reality headset. This doesn’t include only lifting objects but also using weapons to combat the monsters. The VR version of the game is still in development.

Release date: TBA

Spider-Man: Remastered coming to PC 

The former PlayStation-exclusive about Spidey will be released on PC in August. Players will experience the main story about Spider-Man and The City That Never Sleeps DLC with additional story chapters, missions and challenges. 

Release date: August 12, 2022 

Horizon Forbidden West gets a Major update 

Horizon Forbidden, the project of Sony Entertainment received a major update. The game now features a performance mode with improved visual fidelity, changing the outfits, reset skills, ultra-hard difficulty, new game+ mode and new weapons. The update is available right now on PlayStation 4 and 5. 

Release date: June 2, 2022

New Horizon AAA VR project

Apart from the update to Horizon Forbidden West, Sony Entertainment presented a new game in the franchise — Horizon call of the Mountain, which is developed by Guerilla and Firesprite. The main feature of the game is that it will be an exclusive for PlayStation VR2, the upcoming virtual reality headset, and based on the trailer graphics, the project seems to bring the gaming experience to a whole new level. 

Release date: TBA

Other upcoming PlayStation VR2 projects are The Walking Dead: Saints, Sinners Chapter 2 and an adaptation of a No Man’s Sky. 

Street Fighter 6 trailer after six years of waiting 

The next title in the Street Fighter franchise will be released after six years of waiting! Capcom presented the first trailer of the sixth iteration of the game with classic heroes like Ryu, Chun-Li, Luke and the new character Jamie and multiple new modes. Moreover, the title is built on a new RE engine, which is used in Resident Evil 7 and Village, so the graphic quality definitely improved since Street Fighter V.

Final Fantasy 16 release date confirmed

The new Final Fantasy game will be released in the summer of 2023. The trailer showed the story’s sneak peeks, seamless cutscenes which overflow into battles of heroes and magical summons like Shiva, Titan, and Ifrit. The trailer also shared some details of a new storyline in a world called Valisthe.

Feel yourself as a cyberpunk cat in Stray 

The upcoming Stray game developed by BlueTwelve Studio will tell a story about the ginger cat that tries to survive in a cyberpunk city. Players will be able to experience all the activities of the fluff one, including destroying things, meowing and interacting with the environment. The game will be free for PlayStation Plus members. 

Release date: July 19, 2022 

Eternights — the developer’s dream title inspired by Persona series 

Eternights — an action and dating sim game that is planned for 2023 for PC and PlayStation 4 and 5. The game was created by a developer who played Persona game series and quit his job to develop this project, which caught the attention of Sony Entertainment. 

Release date: 2023 

New survival horror by Dead Space co-creator

The Callisto Protocol is a new project of Glen Schofield, one of the co-creators of the iconic Dead Space horror game series. The new game is of the same genre and will tell the story of Jacob Lee, who was imprisoned on Jupiter’s moon and needs to save his wife during a mysterious pandemic. 

Release date: December 2, 2022

Announced Indie projects

Tunic — isometric action game that will be released on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on September 27.

Season: A letter to the future — indie game from Scavengers Studio for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. The release date is planned for autumn 2022. 

Rollerdrome — a new skater battler that will be released on August 16, 2022.
