RTX 4090 Rumors: Price, Date, Specs

The release of RTX 4090, the long-awaited new graphics card from Nvidia, is rumored to be scheduled for October 2022. In this article, we will present you with all available information, including the possible price, release date and specifications.

RTX 4090 is expected to be the flagship GPU of Nvidia’s RTX 4000 series. According to Nvidia, upcoming Lovelace-based GPUs should be based on TSMC’s 5nm process. This new technology means the sensor will be even smaller thanks to the new architecture. Around the same time, AMD will also release its new RDNA3 GPU series to the market, so it’s not yet clear if Nvidia will be able to keep its crown.

When to expect the new RTX

Following the report of the YouTube channel Moore’s Law is Dead, which claims that the GPU will be released later than expected, the RTX 4090 is expected to release in October 2022. However, this information hasn’t been officially confirmed by the manufacturer. The company’s official announcement is expected in September and there is a probability that the release will take place not even later, towards the end of the year.

The delay is reportedly caused by an oversupply of previous-generation graphics cards, following years of inflated prices due to the rise of cryptocurrencies. Retailers have accumulated so much stock of past-generation cards that it allegedly threatens the release of Nvidia’s new Lovelace generation cards. Due to the oversupply, Nvidia has also already slashed the prices of current-generation graphics cards.

RTX 4090 specifications (likely)

  • RAM: 24GB GDDR6X
  • CUDA Cores: 16384 (+56% more than 3090)
  • Base clock: 2235 MHz
  • Clock frequency: 2520 MHz
  • Bus width: 384-bit
  • Memory Bandwidth: 21Gbps
  • TDP: 450W

Leaked benchmarks showed that the RTX 4090 performs exceptionally well in gaming workloads. The XpeaGPU leak showed that the GPU was able to run Control at 4K resolution at an incredibly fast 160fps. That’s a notable result considering that the game is notorious for bringing many GPUs to their knees with its heaviness.

Compared to the previous RTX 3090, the RTX 4090 will see an incredible jump in performance — about 47% higher clock speed. Running at these speeds will require a lot of power, with the RTX 4090 rumored to have a TDP of as much as 450W. However, this may change with the release of the final product, as these are just unofficial leaked benchmarks.

RTX 4090 price speculations

According to community speculations, RTX 4090 is expected to be priced at $1999. This figure is based on multiple factors, but mainly on the cost of the previous generation of Nvidia’s graphics cards. While RTX 3090 retailed at $1,499, the Titan version of RTX 3090 was priced at $1,999 — more than everyone expected. Given the rising cost of materials, we may see the RTX 4090 priced higher than its previous generation counterpart.

At the moment, it seems that RTX 4090 will be the first new-gen GPU to be released, so many are hoping to see them on sale pretty soon. With the release of the RTX 4090, other simplified chips (RTX 4080 and 4070) are likely to follow.
