The M4A4 Howl Skin sold for a record $215,000 at auction. The reasons for this include the four stickers from iBUYPOWER, a team that is now suspended because they were involved in match fixing.
CS2 is coming soon and right now the market for skins in CS:GO is exploding like never before. Prices keep reaching new, dizzying heights. Now there was another sale that caused a fuss in the CS community. Recently, the sale of a M4A4 | Howl of skin trader Oliver “ZipeL” Behrensdorff confirmed. The rifle featured four stickers from the controversial iBUYPOWER team, which is one of the reasons why it ended up at auction for $215,000.
Skin sold for 251k at auction
The auction was handled by “zipeL”, one of the best known skin collectors who also brokered the sale of an AK-47 case hardened skin and knife for half a million dollars.
The M4A4 Howl StatTrack has four iBUYPOWER holo decals from the 2014 EMS One Katowice Major, and while they match the weapon’s colors perfectly, there are reasons beyond aesthetics why collectors want them.

What makes the skin so valuable?
The skin itself is very valuable, but its price has also been pushed up by the controversial stickers that come with it.
ZipeL thinks the sale was cheap, although it’s the most money made on this type of rifle. The skin itself is extremely rare because Valve stopped producing this skin after it was revealed that the design had been stolen. To top off the rare skin, there are four stickers from iBUYPOWER.
Ever since iBUYPOWER was banned for matchfixing, their stickers have skyrocketed in the market: on another Counter-Strike marketplace, they’re selling for over $67,000 each.
Controversy aside, this M4A4 Howl’s extremely low float value (0.004830657970160) suggests that the skin is practically brand new and free of scratches and blemishes.
Who bought the skin?
The winning bidder goes by the name “Patriarch” and if you look at his Steam profile and item inventory this bidder has some interesting in-game items including three AWP Dragon Lore, two AK-47 Vulcan, an M4A4 Howl and a knife M9 Bayonet Crimson Web.
Players can obtain a variety of weapon skins by opening the in-game loot boxes. The cosmetic items you get from these boxes range from common to extremely rare items, and you can recoup your investment by selling them on the Steam marketplace.
Skin market at all-time high since CS2 announcement
The announcement of CS2 gave a massive boost to the skins trade. Another record-breaking deal was recently completed with the help of ZipeL. The AK-47 | Case Hardened with four titanium logos sold for $400,000. However, the trader claims that the most expensive item is a karambit knife, for which its owner was offered €1.2m but refused to sell it.
